Paper group investing EUR27m in purification

Paperboard manufacturer Iggesund Paperboard, which is part of the Holmen forest products industry group, is investing EUR27m to improve wastewater purification at its Swedish mill Iggesunds Bruk. The purification facility will come online in the autumn of 2009. The mill manufactures Iggesund’s flagship product Invercote, which has a leading market position as a packaging material for prestige products and for use in graphics applications such as book and brochure covers and greeting cards.

Just 6.6 grams of PET for 500 millilitres of water

An accolade for the best packaging innovation in 2008: Krones AG, Neutraubling, Germany, won the 2008 Water Innovation Award in Gold from the trade periodical “bottled water world” in the "Best packaging innovation" category for a 0.5-l PET bottle weighing a mere 6.6 grams. EC closes procedures against German deposit system

The European Commission has closed an infringement procedure against Germany relating to the deposit system for one-way drinks packaging, such as cans and plastic bottles. Henkel anticipates run on casein-free adhesives

Numerous breweries and mineral water bottlers are indirectly affected by higher world market prices for dairy products. Traditionally used labeling adhesives contain casein obtained from cow’s milk. The price of casein has recently risen dramatically and, in the opinion of raw materials experts, is unlikely to decrease shortly. Rebuild leads to an even better Invercote

All that was needed was €74 million, 1,400 contractors and an unyielding desire to improve the quality of one of the world’s best paperboards – Invercote. In September Iggesund Paperboard implemented an extensive rebuild of the wet end of its board machine number 2 at Iggesund, Sweden. The project also included improving water treatment at the mill and installing a new lime kiln. The aim was not to increase production but rather to improve quality.

Tank less filler

Cleaning weight filling machines and treating effluents represent a non-negligable expense. Treatment expenses (water, detergents…) are added to the cost of machine down-time.
