Since Drupa 2004 KBA has sold around 50 of its giant Rapida 185 and Rapida 205 sheetfed presses. Initially confined to European and North American printers of posters, POS displays, books and packaging, more recently they have also been discovered by printers in China, with the first Rapida 185 five-colour press arriving in Shanghai at the end of last year. Now the giant KBA Rapida 205 – the world’s biggest sheetfed press – is coming to Australia, with Glama Pak ordering a five unit plus coater version for its Sydney production centre. Installation is slated for December with a start date of next February. Africa, home to jumbos of another kind, is now the only continent lacking this giant Rapida, but that is surely only a matter of time.

At the end of July 2008, the Plovdiv-based print industry trading company Dominov Konsumativ will be assuming its responsibilities as the new agency for press manufacturer Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA) in Bulgaria. The agency agreement covers both the Rapida sheetfed offset presses from the KBA facility in Radebeul near Dresden and web presses for commercial and newspaper printing from the West German KBA locations in Würzburg and Frankenthal.

Succesful event for HSM
From 25th to 27th of September 2007 the FachPack 2007, the trade fair for packing solutions, took place in Nuremberg. Altogether 1,326 exhibitors faced 33,975 specialized visitors, from those approximately 84% came from Germany. HSM convinced on an 50 square meter exhibition booth as well known manufacturer of baling presses and solutions for the production of packing material.

From 24th up to 31st of october 2007 Messe Düsseldorf opened their gates for the K, the world-wide leading fair for the plastic and rubber industry. Over eight days 3,130 exhibitors had the chance to convince approximately 242,000 specialized visitors from all over the world of their products. On 96 sqm HSM presented itself as specialist for the lasting compaction of PET bottles and for the pressing of foil, cardboard and special materials, like hard plastic (e.g. Television and computer frames).

Reducing prepress errors
Esko, the world's leading supplier of solutions for the digital imaging of flexo plates and for pre-production workflows in the packaging industry, announces the successful implementation of a JDF-based communication solution at Leeb Folien GmbH & Co KG. Working in collaboration with Dr. Lauterbach & Partner, Esko established an online connection between Esko BackStage and the SAP ERP system. Leeb Folien has also installed Esko WebCenter, a JDF-based online approval tool. A specialist in custom film packaging based in Memmingen, Germany, Leeb Folien has been using the new communications interface since February 2007. The installation has maximized the level of automation and significantly reduced error rates in the company's prepress workflow.

Press delivered
Fischer & Krecke delivers their first CI flexo press designed for the WetFlex process to UV-Flex GmbH, Aichstetten, Germany. The 10-color press, a FLEXPRESS 16S model, will be commissioned in the beginning of March. WetFlex is an innovative process in which the radiation cured inks developed by Sun Chemical are applied wet-on-wet to the substrate.
