JSC Kedainiai Canning Factory, a leading vegetable processor and producer of sauces in Lithuania has elected to provide its range of tomato ketchup with a new appearance.

This year Mondi Consumer Flexibles celebrates the 50th anniversary of its largest production plant, the Unterland Flexible Packaging GmbH. The company located in Kufstein (Austria), was founded in 1959 by Dr. Alfred Labek and has continuously grown to be a specialist for the production and processing of film made from polyethylene and polypropylene.

Tymbark has recently launched an innovative beverage dedicated to young consumers. Kubuś Waterrr is a spring water with addition of fruit juice in three flavours: apple, lemon and strawberry. Thanks to aseptic production it contains neither preservatives nor colorants. Waterrr has been introduced to the market in an attractive fully sleeved 0.5L bottle, capped with the Original Sport Cap in 30-25 neck finish. The handy bottle can be easily carried around during school and leisure activities. Furthermore, the closure, equipped with the SimpliSqueeze® beverage valve, prevents the product from being accidentally spilled in kids’ backpacks.

Europe’s leading dairy producer Arla Foods has chosen Superfos to supply the new packaging solution for the popular Lurpak® Spreadable and Lurpak® Lighter Spreadable. Each year, more than 100 million tubs will leave the factory in Randers.

Borstar RJ900MO was developed to meet the packaging market need for shorter cycle times, transparency and mechanical properties in applications such as house- and kitchenware and food packaging. The material also offers very good organoleptic properties and low extractables to meet the needs of the packaging producer, filler and end user.

Borealis, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, is expanding the capacity of its leading edge, customer-oriented polypropylene (PP) packaging materials with the inauguration of its new Borstar® plant in Burghausen, Germany. The 330,000 t per year facility will use Borealis’ proprietary Borstar PP 2G (second generation) multi-modal technology to produce products offering a step change in purity, processing output and performance. The plant more than doubles Borealis’ current Borstar PP capacity to 570,000 t per year.

Innovia Films has launched its first range of ‘breathable’ biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film - PropaFresh™ P2G & P2GAF.

A new high-clarity polypropylene suitable for a wide range of extrusion blow moulded containers, as well as a new PP with improved organoleptic properties for drink bottle caps and closures, will be among the highlights on the Borealis stand at Plastpol, the annual Polish plastics processing show being held at the end of May in Kielce. Borealis will also present new high-performance film grades.

Liver sausage is not excepted from the trend towards convenience. More and more manufacturers of spreadable sausage now offer their products in handy containers with easy-peel lids, thus ensuring that the product can be spread without the consumer dirtying his or her fingers, and that the packaging retains its attractive appearance throughout its useful life. To be introduced to a broad audience for the first time at K 2007, Hyperform® HPN-20E makes cost-effective property modification of polyethylene (PE) a first-time reality for converters, resin and master batch producers, while providing a versatile, one-stop optimising solution for polypropylene (PP).

Clear polypropylene (PP) clarified with Millad® 3988i from Milliken & Company is a better choice than polyethylene terepthalate (PET) for glass replacement in packaging applications, as Unilever South Africa Foods discovered. Not only does clear polypropylene have the potential to be a less-expensive solution than PET, due to a combination of raw material cost and lower density, but it may also deliver excellent clarity plus the added benefits of improved moisture barrier performance and higher hot-fill temperatures. Seeking to launch a new range of seasonings, with durable lightweight plastic in new bottles for its Robertsons’ line of specialty seasonings, Unilever South Africa Foods selected clear PP featuring Millad 3988i clarifying agent. The material is manufactured during one-stage injection stretch blow molding (ISBM) to create attractive containers.
