The western Romanian town of Cluj-Napoca is the site of the STI Group's new folding box factory. While production actually launched in late January 2010, the official dedication came just a few days ago. The new plant is the STI Group's fourth to specialise in folding boxes, securing the corporation its spot as one of the leading providers in Europe. In many ways, the decision to establish a plant in Romania is just the STI Group's way of following its customers, many of whom have been receiving shipments from the Hungarian plant in Kecskemét in recent years.

With the Baseline, OYSTAR A+F is introducing a servo-controlled tray erector that features a number of technical innovations. The award ceremony of the 31st German Packaging Prize took place in Nuremberg on the afternoon of November 12th in line with the BRAU Beviale, the European beverage trade fair. The German Packaging Institute dvi awarded prizes to 22 new developments from 18 companies and 3 students in 7 categories. Prizes were awarded for functional and novel solutions which promote the packaging practice in an economical, technical, creative and ecological respect. The Oscar of the packaging industry enjoys increasing international attention. For example 13 of 16 submissions were selected for the WorldStar 2008 at the jury meeting of the World Packaging Organisation in Cape Town through the German Packaging Prize. This year, German innovations could mainly prevail among the strong international competition in the consumer area.

Stora Enso has launched its new Performa Alto board for high-quality folding cartons. The board offers excellent print results and a bright surface, making it ideal for cosmetics and luxury packaging. Performa Alto is available in grammages from 200 to 350 gsm.

Drent Goebel looks back at the most successful drupa ever, with eight machines sold to customers around the globe. Special attention was given to the introduction of the Food Safety Certificates for the VSOP press.

Iggesund Paperboard is increasing prices on its folding box board, Incada, by 6 – 8 percent per tonne for deliveries as of 1 March 2008.

“Prices have stayed at the same level for a number of years whilst variable costs have increased dramatically,” says Björn Kvick, President of Iggesund Paperboard. “Something is wrong with the FBB market in Europe – and if this trend continues FBB producers will be put out of business.”
