Bioplastics to be exempt from German deposit scheme
The European Bioplastics industry representation welcomes the regulation concerning bioplastic drink bottles established in the 5th Amendment of the German Packaging Directive. The amendment was passed on 4 April 2008. The regulation for bioplastic bottles will come into effect on 1 January 2009. These bottles "produced from at least 75 percent renewable resources" will be exempted from the compulsory deposit for single use drink bottles until 31 December 2012. Manufacturers must however participate in a dual system of recycling for the bottles.
