Corrugated sales fall in Germany

If fewer goods are sold, the demand for transport packaging drops. The Verband der Wellpappenindustrie (vdw – corrugated cardboard association) describes the prospects for 2010 as fair to middling. Particularly companies supplying sectors heavily affected by the crisis, such as machinery manufacture, automotive component suppliers or the chemical industry, are recording big losses. 2.4% rise in demand seen for corrugated and paperboard boxes

Demand for corrugated and paperboard boxes is projected to increase 2.4 percent annually through 2014 to $36.4 billion, with gains driven by an expansion in manufacturing output after the real declines registered during the 2004-2009 period. In particular, an acceleration in shipments of nondurable goods such as food and beverages will support demand for related boxes. These and other trends are presented in Corrugated & Paperboard Boxes, a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc., a Cleveland-based industry market research firm.

Fifty years in the packaging business

Colbert Packaging Corp., a manufacturer of folding cartons, rigid paper boxes and paperboard specialty products, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. In 1959, Charles “Bud” Colbert purchased Kroeck Paper Box, a rigid setup box company founded in 1892. He changed the name to Colbert Packaging and set out on a mission to offer one of the industry’s most diverse packaging portfolios. This meant reaching beyond the rigid paper box market and launching a folding carton operation. Largest cutting table delivered to packaging firm

EskoArtwork announces the successful installation of the largest Kongsberg cutting table ever delivered, a Kongsberg XL48, at Nefab Packaging Norway. For the past four years, the company, part of the Nefab Group, had been working with a Kongsberg XL24 table and ArtiosCAD structural design software to produce small to medium-size runs of foam and corrugated boxes.
