Growth in confectionery demand in Germany

ProSweets Cologne, the international supplier fair for the confectionery industry, ended on Wednesday, 3rd February 2010 after delivering good results and thereby providing fresh momentum in the sector. The trade fair, which took place for the fourth time, once again set new record results and achieved new growth in all categories — exhibitors, visitors and exhibition area. A total of 325 suppliers from 30 countries took part in ProSweets Cologne, presenting their products and services on a gross exhibition space of 19,000 m² to more than 19,000 trade visitors from 60 countries. “In view of the overall economic situation, the success of ProSweets Cologne is even more impressive,” said Koelnmesse CEO Gerald Böse. “It also underlines the importance of the trade fair as a marketing tool, information exchange and catalyst for positive development in the sector.” ProSweets Cologne is the world’s only trade fair that focuses on all the needs of confectionery sector suppliers — from production to processing to packaging of confectionery products. The conceptual sponsors of ProSweets Cologne are the Association of the German Confectionery Industry (BDSI), Sweets Global Network (SG), the German Agricultural Society (DLG) and the Central College of the German Confectionery Industry (ZDS).

Pro Sweets maintains position

ProSweets Cologne is maintaining its position despite the difficult economic conditions. The world’s first supplier trade fair exclusively for the confectionery industry, which will take place for the fourth time in Cologne from 31st January to 3rd February 2010, can report that good interim results have been achieved — even with eight months remaining until the event begins. “The outlook for ProSweets Cologne 2010 is very promising. At this early stage, around two thirds of the hall area occupied by ProSweets Cologne 2009 has already been rented out for the 2010 event. We currently assume that in 2010 the trade fair will once again be even bigger than the past events,” says Sabine Loos, Vice President Koelnmesse GmbH. ProSweets Cologne will take place in parallel to the International Sweets and Biscuits Fair Cologne – ISM – and will bring together the entire range of supplies required for production, processing and packaging of confectionery items.

Carton packaging for beverages has enormous potential

Use of carton packaging for beverages continues to increase worldwide. And that is not surprising. Per capita sales of drinks in carton containers in China is currently at only about one fourth of the level of consumption of corresponding products in Germany. Sales per capita in Brazil are already at half the level of the total in Germany. In absolute terms, however, these two countries long ago surpassed the German market, but the growth potentials are nevertheless still large.

Pro Sweets to address packaging

A large number of companies (around 230) will be exhibiting at the second ProSweets Cologne from 29th January to 1st February 2007. Launched in 2006, the international supplier fair for the confectionery industry will once again be held in Hall 10.1 of the Cologne exhibition centre, adjacent to the International Sweets and Biscuits Fair (ISM). The two fairs will overlap by three days. ProSweets Cologne will once again have a separate entrance, and its even clearer segmentation will make it easier for the visitors to collect information and place orders. The fair will be divided into four areas: ingredients, process technology, packaging technology and packaging. It will be accompanied by a trade-specific supporting programme of events that provide exactly the information the visitors are looking for. ProSweets Cologne is organised by Koelnmesse, and its conceptual sponsors are the Association of the German Confectionery Industry (BDSI), Sweets Global Network (SG), the German Agricultural Society (DLG) and the Central College of the German Confectionery Industry (ZDS).
