Award for cereal box

Food and Beverage Packaging magazine has named the sleek-shaped Linearpak(R) package that Sonoco designed and is producing exclusively for Target 2008 Package of the Year in the Food Category. It was also named one of 13 finalists in the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute's PACK EXPO Selects awards program. This new cereal container is currently being featured in the Showcase of Packaging Innovations(TM) at the Pack Expo trade show in Chicago.

Star wars award for packaging student

Think unusual shapes, think luxury and think cartonboard. That was the challenge in this year’s edition of the Packaging Impact Design Award (PIDA). Korsnäs’ competition for design students in Sweden, France and Germany is now under way, with the Swedish competition wrapping up at the end of May. Under glorious blue skies, students and businesspeople met at Korsnäs in Frövi for a full day of packaging design activities. The competition entries were of very high quality and Maria Hjerppe from Mälardalens Högskola took home first prize – a trip to Barcelona – with her DVD box for the Space Wars trilogy.

Compact system or modular line

A renowned paint manufacturer from Slovenia fills their viscous paints in five different boxes from 100-1500 ml, the largest box containing 15 bottles and the smallest 6. The round and square plastic bottles are packaged using the SOMIC universal Wrap-Around Packer WA 414 W/2. Due to space constraints, this group packer was designed as a compact system. For this, the box closing unit, previously an independent machine station, was integrated into the packaging station. This new machine, now one metre shorter than its sister model, can create up to 1000 Wrap-Around boxes per hour, in a small space and at reduced costs.
