Pfeiffer’s Beauty Division will unveil its new brand image this coming October at its booth during Luxe Pack Monaco, the Luxury Goods Packaging Exhibition.

Every Christmas, retailers gear up for a massive commercial extravaganza. All of the music and decorations are there to put customers in a free-spending mood. Shops are full to bursting with seasonal products dressed up in promotional packaging or – if it’s clothing – presented in beautiful gift packs.

Today’s cosmetic treatments are meant to be more and more active and efficient at home. A trend towards natural botanic or marine substances for gentle skincare, especially among the ever growing best agers target group, strongly drives the cosmetic industry.

How will packaging look in ten years? What are our consumption patterns, and what makes packaging sell? These are the questions Korsnäs asked young design students at the Packaging Impact Design Awards (PIDA). This year, concurrent competitions were held in Sweden, Germany and France. First out of the box was the Hochschule der Medien in Stuttgart. This year’s PIDA coincides with Korsnäs’ introduction of the new cartonboard Frövi White, and the contest assignment was to choose a luxury product in the beauty, beverage, confectionery, fashion, media or health & medical segment and design packaging for it using Frövi White These are the market segments for which Korsnäs introduced the new board, developed with focus on whiteness, smoothness and formability.

India-based Essel Propack, part of the Essel Group, is to enter its 15th market having unveiled plans to open up a beauty packaging production facility in Poland that will serve growing demand for plastic tubes in the region.

As technology never ceases its progress, mechanical elements are gradually being replaced by electronic devices. Cosmetic filling machines have not escaped this trend. A development which offers product fillers improved performance, comfort and user-friendliness.

At Luxe Pack 2006 in Monaco (24 to 27 October), the Gerresheimer Group impressively demonstrates that glass is an extraordinarily versatile material for cosmetics design and can display widely varying characteristics.
