Bag on valve business sold

CCL Industries announced today that it has signed a binding agreement to divest the assets of its ABS ‘Bag-on-Valve’ business to AptarGroup, Inc. The business is a product line of CCL Container, sold in conjunction with aluminum aerosol containers for applications requiring separation between the propellant and the contents. CCL Container will retain the aluminum aerosol can business sold to customers using the ‘Bag-on-Valve’ system and AptarGroup will separately market these specialized dispensing systems to the customers.

Aluminium accounts for half of cans

The German manufacturers of foil, tubes, flexible packaging and aerosol/food/beverage cans from aluminium increased sales in 2007. According to the association, production was 4.8% higher than in the previous year (2006: 407 923 tonnes) at 427 316 tonnes. Due to the high price of aluminum on the world market, industry sales went up 8.7% to EUR 2.57 billion (2006: EUR 2.37 billion).

Alcan receives certification for US plant

Alcan Packaging, a division of Rio Tinto Alcan announces that its Medical Flexibles Americas Commerce, California and Marshall, North Carolina facilities have received the ISO 13485:2003 certification, a quality management standard for medical devices. Rusal to build aluminium foil plant near Moscow

UC RUSAL, the world’s largest aluminium and alumina producer, is pleased to announce plans to construct a packaging foil plant near the city of Dmitrov in the Moscow region. The project investment will amount to approximately USD 20 million. The plant will have an overall capacity of 20,000 tonnes of packaging foil per year and will increase UC RUSAL’s share of the Russian foil and foil-based packaging market by up to 66%.

Krasnoyarsk plant introduces new technology

UC RUSAL, the world’s largest aluminium and alumina producer, has announced that Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter (KrAZ) has completed the installation of automatic alumina point-feeders. KrAZ is the first and the only aluminium smelter in Russia based on the slotted anode technology equipped with automatic point-feeders. The investments in this project amounted over USD 38 millions.

Aluminium foil sales remain stable

During the third quarter the sales of aluminium foil kept stable while the sales during the first nine months slightly increased by 1.4 percent. According to the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) Q3 sales reached 211,900 tons compared to 211,700 tons in the third quarter 2006. Nine months sales went up to 663,900 tons from 654,900 in 2006. The total sales which are still on record level had a decreased growth rate due to lower exports which reduced by eight percent from January until September. The usage inside the EAFA region* increased by 1.1 % in the third quarter and by 3.3 percent in the first three quarters of 2007.

Successful half year for aluminium foil

The sales of aluminium foil rose by two percent in the first half year of 2007 after an already strong first half year in 2006. According to the data provided by the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) sales reached 452,000 tons compared to 443,200 tons from January until June 2006.

Aluminium recylcing increases

Al Invest joins support to the beverage can recycling project, which was established by the European Aluminium Association. Beverage cans are manufactured out of aluminium or steel. Both materials can be easily and repeatedly 100% recycled, therefore cans are the most recycled beverage packaging in the world. In the last 25 years the average mass of beverage cans with a volume of 0.33 litre has been reduced by around 30%. As a result, a 0.33 litre can weighs now just 13.8 grams including the ring-pull end.
