Constantia Packaging sees sales fall in Q1

Group sales declined in the quarterly comparison by 19% to €432.6 million from 534.8 million in the first quarter 2009. EBITDA stood at €67.2 million after €89.7 million in the previous year. The EBITDA margin amounted to stable 15.5% after 16.8% in the reference period. EBIT was down at €38.6 million compared to €61.8 million the year before, EBIT margin stood at 8.9% after 11.6 %.

CCL Industries announced today that it has signed a binding agreement to divest the assets of its ABS ‘Bag-on-Valve’ business to AptarGroup, Inc. Aluminium accounts for half of cans

The German manufacturers of foil, tubes, flexible packaging and aerosol/food/beverage cans from aluminium increased sales in 2007. According to the association, production was 4.8% higher than in the previous year (2006: 407 923 tonnes) at 427 316 tonnes. Due to the high price of aluminum on the world market, industry sales went up 8.7% to EUR 2.57 billion (2006: EUR 2.37 billion).

Rusal to build aluminium foil plant near Moscow

UC RUSAL, the world’s largest aluminium and alumina producer, is pleased to announce plans to construct a packaging foil plant near the city of Dmitrov in the Moscow region. The project investment will amount to approximately USD 20 million. The plant will have an overall capacity of 20,000 tonnes of packaging foil per year and will increase UC RUSAL’s share of the Russian foil and foil-based packaging market by up to 66%.

Krasnoyarsk plant introduces new technology

UC RUSAL, the world’s largest aluminium and alumina producer, has announced that Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter (KrAZ) has completed the installation of automatic alumina point-feeders. KrAZ is the first and the only aluminium smelter in Russia based on the slotted anode technology equipped with automatic point-feeders. The investments in this project amounted over USD 38 millions.

Aluminium foil sales remain stable

During the third quarter the sales of aluminium foil kept stable while the sales during the first nine months slightly increased by 1.4 percent. According to the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) Q3 sales reached 211,900 tons compared to 211,700 tons in the third quarter 2006. Nine months sales went up to 663,900 tons from 654,900 in 2006. The total sales which are still on record level had a decreased growth rate due to lower exports which reduced by eight percent from January until September. The usage inside the EAFA region* increased by 1.1 % in the third quarter and by 3.3 percent in the first three quarters of 2007.

TK Aluminum Ltd. (the "Company"), the indirect parent of Teksid Aluminum Luxembourg S.a.r.l., S.C.A., announced today that on April 11, 2007 it completed the sale of its subsidiary Teksid Aluminum Poland Sp.z o.o ("Teksid Poland") to Tenedora Nemak, S.A. de C.V. ("Nemak"), a subsidiary of ALFA, S.A.B. de C.V. ("ALFA").
