According to current estimates, in 2009 around 150 billion litres of drinking milk and milk-based beverages will be consumed worldwide. Increasingly the milk beverages are being packaged in PET and HDPE containers, at the expense of cartons and glass bottles. PET is especially popular for milk beverages such as drinking yoghurt, milk-based drinks and what is known as ESL, or extended-shelf-life fresh milk. This is also having an effect on process technology. At drinktec 2009, the World Fair for Beverage and Liquid Food Technology, a range of technological solutions will be on show for use in the processing of milk and milk-based beverages.

In the past, manufacturing and bottling plants were manually controlled by operating personnel. This task has long since been carried out by programmable logic controllers. But this is just the beginning – the foundation of a worldwide trend will effectively be continued at drinktec 2009 from 14 to 19 September at the Munich trade fair centre: where modern automation technology throughout the entire value-added chain of drinks and liquid foods will be introduced. The entire topic range of process control, control technology and IT will therefore be recurring themes running throughout all the halls.

AUTOMATICA, which took place between 10 and 13 June 2008 on 32,000 square metres (net) of exhibition space at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre, set a new record for visitor and exhibitor numbers. This year the event attracted over 30,000 trade visitors from around 90 countries (2006: 28,479 from 84 countries). Over 7,000 of these visitors were from outside Germany, which represents an international participation of around one quarter.

At the trade show Luxe Pack de Monaco the 8th Prix Formes de Luxe in the category standard solutions was granted to DieterBakicEnterprises and its packaging for CORINE DE FARME, Sarbec Cosmetics. This year Dieter Bakic had already received two prestigious awards for his packaging for NIVEA BEAUTÉ and DECLÉOR.
