After drupa, it’s time for drupa: fully in keeping with this motto, the drupa 2012 Committee met for its constitutive session in Düsseldorf on 23 September. The Committee unanimously voted Dipl.-Ing. Martin Weickenmeier, Member of the Executive Board, Körber AG, and CEO, Körber PaperLink GmbH, the new President of drupa. Dipl.-Ing. Albrecht Bolza-Schünemann, President of drupa in 2000, 2004 and 2008, did not wish to stand for re-election. Martin Weickenmeier symbolizes the continuity and consistent further development of drupa as the leading global fair for its sector. Since drupa 2004, the 54-year-old has already been Vice-President and Chairman of the Admissions Committee. “I am delighted to assume the presidency at such an exciting time. Our sector is developing at a rapid pace and drupa 2012 will once again be a key milestone”, Martin Weickenmeier said.

Bailiffs served an injunction on 3S packaging, the company set up recently by Rainer K. and Friedrich K., former directors of Bradman Lake GmbH. during this years’ Interpack exhibition in Düsseldorf.

DuPont has announced the expansion of its renewably sourced portfolio of offerings for the packaging market with the launch of new DuPont™ Biomax® TPS thermoplastic starch and DuPont™ Biomax® PTT (polytrimethylterephtalate) injection moldable resin. The launch took place at the global Interpack packaging trade fair.

From 24th to 30th April 2008, the bioplastics group exhibition ‘Bioplastics in Packaging’ attracted scores of visitors and got top marks from exhibitors and visitors. 96 percent of the participating companies were very satisfied and have already indicated their intenti-on to exhibit at the next interpack in three years’ time.

With the drupacube, drupa 2008 will for the first time provide a special event aimed at the print buyer target group. As will be the case in the 19 halls, here too the spotlight will be on printed products – with one key difference. At the event inside the pavilion set up on the Rhine, the focus will be squarely on marketing-driven applications for printed products. The technology that makes this possible will play a subsidiary role. This shift in perspective offers one unbeatable advantage: Heads of marketing and publishing directors, production managers, account executives and creative directors will be able to take in print’s potential in the marketing mix in a compact format. “With this tool, we intend to attract print buyers to drupa in greater numbers. Undoubtedly, many of the exhibitors also have offerings catering to this target group. But at a technology fair of drupa’s kind, this type of information is often in danger of being drowned out,” said Manuel Mataré, drupa Project Director, describing the aim of the event. “The drupacube acts as a portal for print buyers by serving up concise infotainment on all things print communications and guiding them to exhibitors’ stands.”
