Entries sought for German packaging prize

by News System

Especially in times of economic difficulty, it is important to develop optimism and forward-thinking ideas. The market is driven by creativity and competition, and these forces also determine quality and the direction of further development. For this reason, the German Packaging Institute (dvi) is also active this year in its search for new concepts, packaging, and machine technology. For this reason, the German Packaging Prize is sending positive signals, and once again, it seeks to test the performance of the industry. The 32nd international competition, which also qualifies as entry into the WorldStar program, focuses on manufacturers, developers, designers, and users of innovative packaging solutions. Dealing with the problems of an aging population

In the year 2030, one third of the population will be over 65 years old; there will be more than 22 million pensioners and senior citizens. This demographic change does not have to be seen as a problem, but rather as an opportunity for the development of new products and services. This is especially the case for medical technology, a field in which Germany still plays a leading role on the international stage. This is demonstrated year in year out by the numerous innovations exhibited at the sector’s leading international event, MEDICA in Düsseldorf and the concurrently run COMPAMED, the main trade fair for the suppliers market for medical manufacturing. According to the Trend Report 2009 by the Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (VDE, Frankfurt a.M.), medical technology is one of the sectors with the greatest innovation potential. This was resoundingly confirmed by a comprehensive survey of 1,300 companies and universities. “Innovative medical technology enables major cost savings in the health sector, mitigates the shortage of skilled personnel, and improves people’s quality of life in an aging society," explains Birgid Eberhardt, Spokesperson for AAL at the VDE. The term Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) refers to a range of intelligent assistance systems, which enable people to enjoy a long life at home in their familiar environment.

At this early stage, around two thirds of the hall area occupied by ProSweets Cologne 2009 has already been rented out for the 2010 event. We currently assume that in 2010 the trade fair will once again be even bigger than the past events,” says Sabine Loos, Vice President Koelnmesse GmbH.
