EC attempts to reduce barriers to inter community trade

The European Commission has presented its list of eleven new fast track actions to reduce administrative burdens for companies, in order to enhance economic growth. They are the second package of such fast track actions and form part of the overall programme to reduce the administrative burdens for entrepreneurs, by 25 percent in 2012. These immediate measures are likely to generate significant benefits of around 1 Billion Euro through technical changes in existing rules (e.g. reporting obligations).

Survey shows shortage of workers

Manpower Inc. (NYSE:MAN) released today the results of its third annual talent shortage survey, revealing that 31 percent of employers across the globe are finding it more difficult to fill jobs. The top three candidates most in-demand are: skilled manual trades, sales representatives and technicians (which are technical workers in the areas of production/operations, engineering and maintenance). Manpower surveyed nearly 43,000 employers across 32 countries and territories as a follow-up to its 2007 and 2006 surveys -- including for the first time in the Czech Republic, Greece, Guatemala, Poland and Romania -- to determine which positions employers are having difficulty filling this year due to lack of available talent.

Aluminium accounts for half of cans

The German manufacturers of foil, tubes, flexible packaging and aerosol/food/beverage cans from aluminium increased sales in 2007. According to the association, production was 4.8% higher than in the previous year (2006: 407 923 tonnes) at 427 316 tonnes. Due to the high price of aluminum on the world market, industry sales went up 8.7% to EUR 2.57 billion (2006: EUR 2.37 billion).
