IML automation becomes available on polystyrene cups

Beck Automation, Oberengstringen (CH), labels a transparent polystyrene (PS) thin wall cup. 3,3 seconds cycle time per shot for 4 cups is the measuring rod set by the IML automations experts from Switzerland.

The automations high speed results from the interaction of  a manufacturing cell  consisting of an Engel speed 180/55 (Schwertberg / AT) injection moulding machine and a hot runner mould from Glaroform (Näfels / CH).  The 4 cavity mould from Glaroform loads the Engel machine with a shot weight of 41 g. With a wall thickness of 0,5mm, each thin-wall cup has a net weight of 10,25g. By means of a side handling, Beck Automation places the labels and simultaneously takes out the completed cup.  Once again, Beck’s experience sets benchmarks in IML (in-mould labelling). Apart from the phenomenal speed of 3,3 sec. cycle time, the manufacturing cell further impresses  with its familiar Beck process stability. The labels from Viappiani (Segrate / IT) obtain through their perfect geometry and precise application at this high speed a convincing look.  The novelty being the labelling of a super transparent PS cup. These cups are used in large numbers by airline companies. Through the label, the airlines can discreetly communicate with the passenger or the contents can be attractively arranged. Nicolas Beck, CEO of Beck Automation comments this idea with  « New messages simply need a new label so that boredom has no chance“. Passengers definitely have the time for this type of communication.
