International Packaging Institute to hold sustainability conference
The events surrounding the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol and the preparations for the upcoming climate conference in Copenhagen make it clear, that "sustainability" has become a big issue, which will guide all future activities related to the use of resources in any form whatsoever. This will heavily influence the packaging industry. Today, the impacts of the current sustainability debate on the design and the use of packaging are as open as complex. The media is loaded with opposing statements, you can find anything from serious life-cycle analysis to marketing oriented "green-wash" campaigns.
The aim of the IPI sustainability event is break the current sustainability discussions down to a point where meaningful conclusions can be made for strategic decisions on materials, machinery and processes in the development of packaging technology.
IPI has organized speakers who will speak to conceptual as well as to applied solutions that can already be anticipated. The day is split in two sections, the morning is dedicated to the conceptual aspects and the afternoon will inform about available solutions. A little workshop in between will try to harmonize the different point of views of participants and speakers.
