Bag-in-box specialist Rapak will unveil a major innovation in its world class Intasept® aseptic filling technology at Anuga FoodTec with the launch of a much faster and even more flexible system. The company’s stand will also showcase the growing popularity of the bag-in-box format for a wide variety of long life and extended life liquid food and beverage applications.

Intasept2® has been developed to significantly increase the output speed of existing models and, thanks to an increased range of dispense fitments, is suitable for an even wider variety of liquid products. This enables end users in markets such as fast food outlets, restaurants and coffee shops to use the aseptic technology in a much more efficient, intuitive manner bringing more flexibility to the system in an increasingly fast moving food and drink industry.

The Intasept® system, based on double membrane technology, guarantees the chemical free aseptic transfer of aseptic product into aseptic bags. It is the only commercial aseptic filling system on the market that offers the security of heat-sealed closure both before and after filling, together with the assurance of a sterile and completely enclosed product transfer path. This means that the sterile product never comes into contact with any surface or air space that has not been actively sterilised. The principle is the same for both low and high acid applications.

Intasept® also delivers major distribution and retailing advantages.  Whereas an aseptic carton’s upper limit is a 2 litre pack, the bag-in-box format is available in 2, 3, 5, 10 and 20 litres, and commercial applications as big as 1400 litres.  In addition, the combination of suitable package materials and Intasept®’s unique transfer technique optimises unopened shelf life.

“Intasept2® represents a step change in aseptic bag-in-box technology,” comments Mark Rose, Business Development Director of Rapak.   “Combined with the increasing popularity of bag-in-box across many sectors, it provides an ideal opportunity for liquid food and drink manufacturers to maximise product quality and shelf life while creating highly effective brand differentiation.”

The Rapak stand will demonstrate the growing range of end markets which are adopting the bag-in-box format.  In addition to the traditional wine box sector, other end uses include juices, mineral waters, post-mix syrups, milk, liquid eggs, dairy products, tomato paste and fruit purées.

For consumers, a major benefit of bag-in-box, in addition to a product’s extended shelf life, is the convenience of the pack format.  If fits securely inside a cupboard or fridge, saving space compared to the equivalent literage in bottles or jars, and provides fast and easy dispense.
