Eighth Grand Prix Cyrel® Awards Accepting Entries
At Drupa 2008, DuPont Packaging Graphics officially launched the 2010 International Grand Prix Cyrel® Awards with a call for entries for the Regional Grand Prix Cyrel® competitions to be held in 2009 in Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific. Submissions for the 2009 Regional Grand Prix Cyrel® Awards are already being accepted and companies interested in participating in the local competitions should submit their commercially produced packages printed with DuPont™ Cyrel® print forms before March 31, 2009.
The Grand Prix Cyrel® is recognized by the industry as one of the most important and prestigious competitions in flexographic package printing. It recognizes the “best of the best” printed packages in terms of outstanding or original design, quality printing and production. Nominations may be submitted by tradeshops, converters, designers, brand owners, and retailers from around the world.
The competition is open to all jobs printed with Cyrel® plates or sleeves, including non-packaging applications. Grand Prix Cyrel® entries are judged in ten categories:
1. Flexible Packaging
2. Tag & Label
3. Carrier Bags
4. Bags
5. Sacks
6. Folding Carton / Beverage Carton - Solid boards only
7. Corrugated Pre-Print
8. Corrugated Post-Print (1) - E flute and finer
9. Corrugated Post-Print (2) - B flute and coarser
10. Best Conversion & Other Specialities
Each work submitted to the competition will be evaluated by a jury of recognized flexo experts known for their technical knowledge of the packaging market. The jurors will select the regional winners from the commercially produced entries by assessing each project on such aspects as package design, substrate selection, quality and difficulty of reproduction and printing, and final printed package appearance and functionality.
In addition, the Grand Prix Cyrel® will honour the best conversion from offset or gravure to flexography. These entries must be submitted by packaging buyers and include information such as higher quality, more rapid speed to shelf, improved cost effectiveness or enhanced sustainability when moving from gravure to flexo.
“CPGs and retailers recognize the importance of attractive packaging to influence the consumer’s buying behaviour,” said Pier Luigi Sassanelli, marketing manager, DuPont Packaging Graphics for Europe, Middle East and North Africa. “The Grand Prix Cyrel® is an ideal stage for industry experts to see state of the art printed packages, and it offers attendees the opportunity to meet and interact with technical, productivity and quality experts in this field.”
“The 2005 European Regional Grand Prix Cyrel® attracted more than 1,700 submissions received from all over Europe, the Middle East and Africa,” Sassanelli continued. “We expect the number and quality of entries to increase for 2009 due to significant technological improvements in the last few years. Expect the competition to be fierce.”
The global event consists of regional competitions that will take place between May and September 2009 with specific schedules determined locally (Europe/Middle East/Africa, South America and Asia Pacific). Winning entries will be honoured during the Regional Grand Prix Cyrel® Awards and will automatically be nominees for the 2010 International Grand Prix Cyrel® Contest.
Application forms and related information are available for downloading from the official Grand Prix Cyrel® web site, www.gpcyrel.dupont.com. Submissions will be accepted until March 31, 2009. The nominees and winners selection will take place during the following month of April.
