NORDENIA INTERNATIONAL AG is strengthening its position as the leading manufacturer of flexible packaging in Russia. The globally operating film and packaging company is investing around EUR 25 million into its Russian plant. “This means that we will further be able to expand our excellent position in Russia’s dynamically growing market with globally active consumer goods manufacturers and among local customers,” explained Ralph Landwehr, Chairman of the Executive Board at NORDENIA INTERNATIONAL AG, during the recent opening celebrations in Pereslavl Zalesskiy, 130 kilometers north-east of Moscow.

At the NORDENIA SLAVNIKA Pereslavl site, a new production building with state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment has been inaugurated, as well as a new warehouse. The plant now has a new machine for the printing of up to ten colors. The high-performance “Novoflex CL” from Windmoeller & Hoelscher is the first system of its kind to be used in Russia. Solvent-based and solvent-free lamination is facilitated by a new machine from the manufacturer Nordmeccanica. A slitter, also new, works with maximum speeds of up to 800 meters per minute. In Pereslavl Zalesskiy, NORDENIA is producing printed, multi-layered, high-quality packaging materials.

The investments in new buildings and machines amount to EUR 12.5 million. The overall investment sum of EUR 25 million also includes the setting up of further printing and lamination machines, which is planned for 2010/11. NORDENIA is represented in the booming markets of Eastern Europe with further production sites in Poland and Hungary. The packaging manufacturer has also had its own sales office in Ukraine for more than a year. In addition, NORDENIA has been represented in Moscow and Saint Petersburg with its own sales offices. As the first manufacturer of flexible packaging in Europe, NORDENIA has opened a plant in Russia in 2003. The figures show that there is potential for growth: Last year, NORDENIA increased its sales in Eastern Europe by just under 10 % over the previous year (2006).

Ralph Landwehr, Chairman of the Executive Board at NORDENIA INTERNATIONAL AG, outlined the strategic goals for the future:

“The consumers in Russia in particular have growing requirements with regard to the presentation of goods, which is why interest in innovative packaging materials is very strong. The Eastern European packaging markets harbor numerous strong-growth fields, such as in the food industry, the confectionery market, the cosmetics sector, and with hygiene products,” emphasized Landwehr. NORDENIA SLAVNIKA Pereslavl will also, in the future, focus on the area of pet food packaging.

NORDENIA SLAVNIKA Pereslavl, which was founded in 1994, has been part of the NORDENIA Group since 2003. Today, more than 200 employees work for the site. “With outstanding achievements in quality and service, our plant has been a market leader in the area of flexible packaging in Russia from the beginning,” says Managing Director Vasily Mizintsev. The example he gave was the pioneering role of NORDENIA SLAVNIKA Pereslavl in the development of state-of-the-art plastic packaging in Russia for several products from the food industry, for example with mayonnaise or ketchup. “With the investments we have laid a solid foundation for expanding this position,” emphasized Vasily Mizintsev.

In addition to high-ranking representatives from politics, there were also numerous representatives of international customers of NORDENIA SLAVNIKA Pereslavl at the inauguration celebrations in Pereslavl Zalesskiy. The guests of honor also included representatives from the Supervisory Board of NORDENIA INTERNATIONAL AG. Oleg Vinogradov (deputy governor of the region Yaroslavl), Andrey Okhapkin (Mayor of Pereslavl) and Ivan Anyukhovsky (President of the Duma of Perslavl) pointed out the important role NORDENIA SLAVNIKA Pereslavl plays for the economic development of the whole region.
