Time for transparency on recycled paper
It is a recognized fact that recycled paper has less impact on the environment than virgin paper, requiring fewer trees, less water and less energy. The more ambiguous carbon repercussions of paper manufacturing pursued Cascades to calculate and compare the carbon footprint of its recycled fine papers.
The results are impressing: Cascades respectively produces 85% and 94% less carbon emissions than the average of recycled and virgin North American uncoated freesheet papers.
On average, one metric ton of virgin paper in North America produces 4245.1 kg equivalent of CO2, while the same ton of 100% recycled paper produces 1791.1 kg. A step ahead, the 100% recycled paper manufactured by Cascades produces 270.4 kg.
