Time for transparency on recycled paper
It is a recognized fact that recycled paper has less impact on the environment than virgin paper, requiring fewer trees, less water and less energy. The more ambiguous carbon repercussions of paper manufacturing pursued Cascades to calculate and compare the carbon footprint of its recycled fine papers.
The results are impressing: Cascades respectively produces 85% and 94% less carbon emissions than the average of recycled and virgin North American uncoated freesheet papers.
On average, one metric ton of virgin paper in North America produces 4245.1 kg equivalent of CO2, while the same ton of 100% recycled paper produces 1791.1 kg. A step ahead, the 100% recycled paper manufactured by Cascades produces 270.4 kg.
“Because reducing the ecological footprint is of paramount importance, we believe our customers should know where we stand”, said Normand Lecours, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, “and we are not talking about credits or reducing someone else’s emissions by offsets, it is simply our reality.”
Cascades Fine Papers Group Inc. is a Canadian leader in environmental and security fine papers manufacturing, with a century-long reputation for craftsmanship. Environmental by choice, the Group produces fine papers that contain 30% and 100% post-consumer fiber and works on an ongoing basis to reduce our ecological footprint on the planet. By buying recycled-content paper, you help us save more than 1.2 million trees each year.
