Record number of foreign companies at Taropak
TAROPAK – a comprehensive offer for the sector
TAROPAK is the largest trade show for the packaging and logistic industry in Central and Eastern Europe. The event is well recognised in the sector and associated with opportunities to evaluate market developments and to gain knowledge about modern solutions. The significance of this year’s TAROPAK is underscored by the fact that it was held under the auspices of Deputy Prime Minister Waldemar Pawlak.
The exhibition attracted numerous businesses related to the production of packaging, raw materials and machinery, warehousing and logistic activities. 800 exhibitors from 31 countries presented their offers on the exhibition area of 20,000 m2. The largest group of exhibitors included companies that offered packing machines and devices and plastic packaging. It is worth underlining that the number of foreign companies was the highest in the history of the Exhibition. Every third exhibitor came from abroad. The greatest number of exhibitors came from Poland and the following countries: Italy (84 exhibitors), Germany (71), France (16), Turkey (12), China (12), Taiwan (11) and Great Britain (11). Poznań attracted market leaders, smaller businesses and leading associations, chambers and specialist magazines. It is worth mentioning that Poznań became a venue for the largest exposition addressed to the logistic sector. Companies from this industry took up over 25% of the exhibition area this year.
The amazingly high number of visitors proves positive developments on the market and the robust growth of the industry. The exposition of TAROPAK and the simultaneously held POLAGRA–FOOD and POLAGRA–TECH was visited by 45,000 attendees.
TAROPAK is a venue for presenting the latest systems and technologies applied in packaging, plastics, printing and logistics. A record number of new market offers attracted a lot of attention this year. There were 250 of them, which is almost three times as many as during the previous exhibition.
Knowledge and experience
Rich offers prepared by exhibitors were accompanied by interesting lectures, meetings with experts and presentations on special areas. You could participate in numerous seminars prepared together with our partners: the Polish Packaging Research and Development Centre, the Polish Chamber of Packaging, the Polish Chamber of Printing, the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing and publishers of specialist journals. The rich programme of events is undoubtedly a factor, alongside presentations of new technologies, that attracts large groups of professionals to Poznań.
CONFERENCES AND SEMINARS
A conference entitled: “SRP (Shelf Ready Packaging) – a challenge to the market” was held on the first trade fair day. It was co-organised by the Polish Chamber of Packaging, the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing and MTP. The seminar was to provide information about SRP, requirements for its implementation in Poland and on the European market, as well as its practical applications in store chains. Representatives of organisations and companies that apply shelf-ready packaging shared their know-how and experience with participants of the seminar. Representatives of DS. Smith Polska S.A. and Jeronimo Martins Polska talked about the application of SRP and other logistic solutions, while representatives of Smurfit Kappa focused on SRP made of corrugated cardboard.
A conference organised by the Polish Chamber of Packaging on the second trade fair day was very well received. Keith Pearson, President of the World Packaging Organisation participated in the event held under the title: “The market of biodegradable packaging in Poland”. The seminar focused on issues related to the evaluation of the biodegradable packaging market in Poland and factors determining its development.
Representatives of scientific centres and packaging companies discussed practical examples of application of such packaging. The seminar provided its participants with knowledge about the application of biodegradable PLA foil in packaging, the use of biodegradable packaging in the food industry and compostable foil made of regenerated cellulose as an alternative to plastic foil.
A seminar entitled EPC / RFID technology for tracking product flow and product origin was extremely interesting for its participants. Prepared by the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing, the meeting was addressed to representatives of production and distribution companies, and to all parties interested in product tracking and loss reduction in supply chains. The workshop presented opportunities and effective applications of EPC / RFID technologies. The participants could also visit the EPC / RFIDU laboratory.
A conference entitled “Innovative solutions for logistics” turned out to be a great event.
Almost 400 people participated in the 4th edition of the meeting organised by Eurologistics Publishing House. The meeting dedicated to the logistic sector was to promote those companies that contribute to increasing the quality of logistic services through their innovative productions and solutions. The lead theme was the building of competitive edge on local markets and in the global supply chain network. The seminar was very popular. The topics discussed included trends in the development of logistic services in Europe, the role of the logistic operator, GPS car tracking system, the future of co-manufacturing and savings in the supply chain.
Polski Drukarz (the publisher of “Świat DRUKU” monthly and “Pro-KREACJA” bi-monthly) prepared a conference devoted to “Self-adhesive labels – new technologies, new quality”, which was an opportunity for suppliers of technologies for the production of self-adhesive labels, printing houses and their customers to exchange experiences. The conference included a series of multimedia presentations addressed mainly to printing houses that produce self-adhesive labels and their clients from the sector of household chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and the beer industry. Suppliers of technologies, machines, equipment and materials for the production of self-adhesive labels held their lectures at the conference.
SPECIAL AREAS
The open grounds next to the Spire of the Poznań International Fair were the venue for yet another competition of forklift trucks. Technical capabilities of forklift truck of almost all brands were presented on three days of the 9th Sztaplar Show. During the competition, operators had to complete tasks of various difficulties on a special manoeuvring area. The improvised area was equipped with high storage shelves, fast-moving gates, storage containers and packaging. The competition was supervised by transport and warehousing experts, who selected the Sztaplar Show 2008 Champions. Trade fair visitors could also sit behind the steering wheel of a forklift truck during the Sztaplar Show. Instructors conducted short training in the operation of the device. After the ride, the visitors obtained a certificate confirming that they completed the Nowoczesny Magazyn Driving Course. The event has been organised from its very beginning by: the Editorial Board of specialised journals: “Nowoczesny Magazyn” and “Logistyka a Jakość” and by the Poznań International Fair.
Promotion of modern warehousing devices and technical solutions for logistic equipment – this is the main message of an educational project entitled Innovations for Logistics 2008 (In4Log). On four trade fair days, shows were conducted in the model distribution centre to replay all logistic processes crucial for its operation. The 200 m2 facility was jointly constructed and equipped by 10 project partners: Stow Polska, Tap Poland, Europa Systems, AG Consult/Mantis, Softex Data, Enersys/ Hawker, Nissan, CHEP Polska, TBT, Volksvagen. In4Log was organised by industry journals: Top Logistyk, Magazynowanie i Dystrybucja and by the Poznań International Fair.
