Establishing multihead weighers from Chile to Russia
Cabinplant introduced the first screw-feeding multihead weigher to a Spanish manufacturer of seafood products, who was looking for a solution, where multihead weighing could be used for “baby eel”, a manmade and sticky alternative to natural elvers. The baby eels could not be transported by use of vibration, and innovative and untraditional thinking was required. The result was a new and unique feeding system, which allows fresh and sticky products to be transported to the weighing pans by means of a screw inserted in the chutes.
“The ability to think untraditionally and to implement new developments with our other solutions, for example filling and packing, is one reason for making Cabinplant a preferred partner to our customers”, says Ralf Astrup, managing director. “Our many installations have given us an invaluable experience-base, which allows us to quickly come up with the optimum solution for a specific customer need.” The screw-feeding multihead weigher is patented in the USA, and there are pending applications in the EU and a number of other countries around the world.
Rose Poultry, located in Denmark, processes a total of 300,000 chickens every day. “We installed the first screw-feeding multihead weigher from Cabinplant in the summer of 2005,” says Thomas Loeth, co-owner of Rose Poultry. “With this solution we can achieve an accuracy which far exceeds that of traditional grade systems. It easily reduces giveaway to below 0.5 %, and compared to a line grading solution, we have now reduced the need for labour by up to 80 %.”
“The first Cabinplant screw-feeding multihead weigher was installed in our production in early 2007”, says Richard Wenneker, plant manager at Emsland Frischgeflügel GmbH. Located in Germany, Emsland Frischgeflügel recently doubled their capacity and now process 1.7 million chickens per week in a state-of-the-art plant. “Naturally we wanted to install the best equipment, when we expanded our production”, continues Richard Wenneker. “We already had several multihead weighers with vibration, but could not use these to achieve the desired results for some specific products. After internal tests with the Cabinplant screw-feeding multihead weigher at our plant in Haren, we were very satisfied with the results and decided to install the first weigher. We have been very pleased with the outcome, and we have already installed screw-feeding multihead weigher number two. No doubt that Cabinplant has a lot of experience with this solution, and we are happy to benefit from it”.
“When we heard that Cabinplant had developed a screw feeding multihead weigher and sold it to several customers in the poultry industry, we were eager to try this solution ourselves”, says Klaus Wraa, production manager at Aker Seafoods Denmark, part of the Norwegian group Aker Seafoods ASA. “We now have two complete lines, which make it possible for us to use multihead weighing for our fresh fish fillets, resulting in a considerable reduction of giveaway”.
Cabinplant provides screw-feeding multihead weighers, which are adapted to the product and capacity needs of the customers. Portions range from one to five litres, and capacities can reach 120 weighings per minute with single dumps. With multiple dumps the capacity can be increased considerably. The weighers are easy to clean due to the absence of large and rugged seams and due to fast and simple dismantling of pans and screws.
Cabinplant was established in 1969 and develops, produces and installs high-quality tailor-made solutions for fish, shellfish, vegetables, berries, fruit and convenience foods as well as weighing and packing solutions for other industries, e.g. meat and poultry, confectionery, bakery etc. Each solution is developed and implemented through a close cooperation between Cabinplant and our customers, incorporating process knowledge and full automation. Cabinplant employs approx. 270 people.
