German packaging prize awards to be made at Brau Beviale in November
The nominations for the 54 candidates for the German Packaging Award 2008 have been final since the end of August. The “packaging industry’s Oscars” has been an annual event for the German Packaging Institute (dvi) since 1963 and enjoys a great response as well as international acclaim. During a two-day jury meeting at the premises of the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre, the nominations were selected from a total of 326 entries. The award ceremony will be held on 12 November during the BRAU Beviale European Drinks Exhibition in Nuremberg. The prizes are awarded for functional and new solutions from developers,
manufacturers and designers to enhance the most diverse range of market
competences of products. The entrants work in all sectors and areas relating to
packaging including the food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals industries,
packaging and packaging material manufacturers, branded product manufacturers,
designers and agencies. In addition to commercial and technical aspects, the jurors
also look at the design and the benefits a product offers to users and the
environment.
This year the dvi has once again included the machinery category in its packaging prize
which, with 54 nominations, is represented by 11 concepts. The nominations and the
prizes will be awarded in all 7 categories – sales packaging, transport, display and
promotion, design, features and finish, prototypes, the young people’s prize open to
students, trainees and schoolchildren focussing on “Easy opening” and “User-friendly
packaging”, and machinery. The sales packaging group had the largest number of entries
this year with a total of 127.
The jury, headed by Chairman Dr. Klaus Peter Stadler from Coca-Cola GmbH, also
issued a great many words of encouragement regarding prototypes and the young
people’s prizes as it announced the nominations. The independent jury consisting
of prominent personalities consists of a further 13 experts provided by 8 national
associations for special packaging materials and packaging products. “Once again
the entrants have demonstrated an impressive reflection of the range of ideas and
innovation in our industry – right across all the categories and from established
professionals to the youngsters in our profession”, said Burkhard Lingenberg, a
member of the Management Board of dvi and Chairman of the Advisory Group with
overall responsibility for the German Packaging Award.
Under the patronage of the German Federal Minister for Industry and Technology,
Michael Glos, the dvi award prizes every year to innovative and creative packaging
ideas. The German Packaging Award has been providing incentives, setting
standards for current and future developments and providing information about
the results for 45 years. Details of the nominations and further information about
the German Packaging Award 2008 are available at www.verpackungspreis.de.
