Sealed Air, a leading manufacturer of food and protective packaging systems and materials, has launched a new high performance inflatable bubble cushioning system to enable operators to reduce material handling and storage space. The NewAir I.B. 600™ packaging system follows the success of the I.B. 200™ and has been designed for high-volume and high-throughout applications.

The all-electric powered NewAir I.B. 600 automatically inflates and dispenses patented Barrier Bubble® at a speed of 3.7 square metres per minute.  Barrier Bubble provides superior protection compared to paper packaging by retaining over 95% of its original thickness and absorbing 60% more transmitted shock.

Andy Robinson, Sealed Air’s European Product Manager, comments: “The speed of the NewAir I.B. 600 system will allow automotive component, furniture and electronic product manufacturers to efficiently produce Barrier Bubble on-demand and in-line with production schedules.  Essentially, operators will be able to realise the benefits of high performance packaging, while significantly reducing the logistics and storage costs typically associated with using bubble packaging.”

The system can be designed to fit seamlessly into any packaging line or used on a standalone basis.  It can be fitted with a roll winder dispenser that produces up to 1300mm diameter cushioning material rolls within minutes or an Instasheeter™ Converting System that cuts predetermined sheets of cushioning.   Sealed Air’s specialist support team work with customers during installation to determine the best fit-for-purpose solution.

Andy Robinson concludes: “The NewAir I.B. 600 system will help operators to reduce packaging waste and volumes, while enhancing product protection.  A leading spare parts manufacturer in Sweden has been using the system for several months and already reported a significant reduction in freight damages and is using around 50% less packaging material.

“The development of the system forms part of Sealed Air’s continued commitment to providing customers with cost effective solutions that minimise packaging, while maximising protection.”
