Amcor Flexibles launches PVC free barrier blister films.
Amcor Flexibles announces the introduction of a range of chlorine-free films that offer a cost-effective alternative to the traditional PVdC-coated PVC blister film.
Based on a coextrusion of polypropylene and COC (Cyclic Olefin Copolymer), the films provide an equivalent moisture barrier as PVdC-coated PVC films. However, unlike PVC and PVdC, they contain no chlorine and release no toxic substances during incineration. COC coextruded films do not have adhesives or organic solvents used in their manufacture. They offer up to 40% weight saving compared to their PVC/PVdC equivalents.
“A key advantage of the Amcor COC film range is that they have been tested on a wide variety of blister packing machines and run successfully at standard operating conditions” comments Roger James, COC Product Manager. Barrier blister films are widely used in the pharmaceutical industry for packing prescription and OTC tablets and capsules requiring a high moisture barrier.
They are also used for OTC products such as throat lozenges, cough lozenges and vitamin supplements, and in confectionary for chewing gum packs.
