New barrier film generation for bitumen applications

One of the most sophisticated end-user markets for silicone coated release liners is the roofing industry. While latest technologies of self adhesive bitumen webs are requiring extremely easy release formulations to guarantee perfect peel off at construction sites, the same bitumen is leaking out unbound oils into and even through the release liner. These oils are not only contaminating the surrounding, but also discolour the liner, so white release films appear yellowish and dirty.

Mondi Coating & Release meets this challenge and has developed a new generation of barrier film for bitumen applications to the market under the brand name: “BitProLiner”(brand is being registered at  DPMA). BitProLiner is a co-extrusion film based on PP-polymers. A rather dense and stiff barrier is implemented, to avoid bleeding out of unbound oils while providing good stiffness for proper handling. The new liner generation is available with any release setting, including “super easy release” for aggressive modified bitumen. Further customized converting can be realized on request, e.g. printing, various colours, embossing etc.

Mondi Coating & Release will launch the product innovation “BitProLiner” during the “Mondi Roofing Innovation Day”, taking place on September 11th, 2008 in Raubling (Germany).
