Dosing system for sensitive powder and granulates

Mixed products or sensitive granulates and powders require special portioning solutions. The function principle of the OPTIMA VD portioning system is specifically suited to prevent demixing, crushing or alteration of the product surface: The product infeed is from the top through a pillar. At first, a pneumatically driven barrier pusher at the bottom stops further product flow into the pillar.  Then, ensuring optimum product protection, the second barrier pusher on top closes in a gentle and slightly circular movement. The barrier pusher at the bottom reopens and discharges a defined product quantity into a container. And only after the bottom barrier pusher is shut, the top barrier pusher opens and allows replenishment of the product. The benefit: To the advantage of the processed powders and granulates’ quality, the pushers do not reach into the product while it is being poured.   

The OPTIMA VD operates flexibly within a volume range between 25 and 1,000 ml. Most volume changeovers can be set at the power-operated adjustment regulating the distance (for volume alteration) between the barrier pushers. Size parts are required only for very large increments. The output reaches a maximum of 80 strokes/min. The system is connectable and an upgrade to a maximum of 24 positions is feasible. If required, an in-process product gassing unit can be integrated. The dosing precision of the OPTIMA VD is within FPVO range. More accurate dosing results, however, can be achieved by means of a tendency control: A downstream checkweigher monitors discrepancies and automatically corrects them in correlation to a mean value. The volumetric system is also ideally suited for a topping-up system, by which 80 to 92 percent are portioned by the OPTIMA VD and the remaining 8 to 20 percent by an auger filler. Another opportunity is the integration of the VD into OEM machines. The machine control has been designed to allow easy adaptation to external systems and user platforms.

The portioning system of the OPTIMA VD is finished in stainless steel, allowing wash down capabilities. Typical applications are, for example, abrasive granulates, instant coffee, sugar or also aggressive chemicals for agricultural purposes. For sensitive products of extreme value, the OPTIMA DF is available; a gravimetric system designed along similar principles, yet offering even greater portioning precision and higher give-away reduction.
