With support from the OYSTAR Group, Milchhof Sterzing (Cooperativa Latteria Vipiteno) — in Italy has nearly doubled its capacity for producing yogurt. This permits it to meet the increasing demand for quality products of the “Sterzinger” brand. The investments in new packaging machines from OYSTAR Gasti in Schwäbisch-Hall and OYSTAR A+F in Kirchlengern have also strengthened Milchhof Sterzing’s position as the fourth-largest supplier of yogurt products to the Italian market.

The new installed machines — a Mastercup from OYSTAR Gasti and a Setline from OYSTAR A+F — provide Milchhof Sterzing with enough flexibility to produce the roughly 100 different products of its Sterzinger brand as well as about 40 others for retailing, in different cup sizes ranging from 80-gram cups for airline caterers across the 125-gram cups usual for retailed products to 500-gram family-size cups.

Milchhof Sterzing’s decision to install the Mastercup was largely motivated by the machine’s reliability and its sterility based on a comprehensive hygienic concept. The machine also features patented chain encapsulation, safe package sterilization, and product-flexible, maintenance-free aseptic filling units without moving seals. Patented thermal cup leakage monitoring is also integrated. Fast retooling and cleaning ensure production virtually without interruptions. The sealing station and filling unit handle the entire product range without the need to replace any format-specific parts. Changing from 80 or 125-gram cups to 500-gram cups is quick and easy, and can be mostly done during cleaning to minimize downtimes. Up to 40,000 premade 125-gram cups or 35,000 500-gram family-size cups can be filled per hour.

The successful SetLine from OYSTAR A+F is a genuinely high-tech machine. It has a small footprint for use in limited space. A pick & place procedure is applied to directly insert cups of any diameter into trays: 6-unit trays for 500-gram cups, 3×8 sets for 125-gram cups or 20-unit trays for 80-gram cups, as well as the common 10 and 20-unit trays. A+F also supplies all other components needed for the outer packaging process, such as automatic format-flexible tray making machines and complete palletizing and cup feeding systems for the Gasti Mastercup.

“We considered it a great advantage that the entire new line would be coming from the same corporate group,” says production manager Walter Wieser of Milchhof Sterzing. “And in fact, it has let us solve problems much faster.”
