State of the art food packaging laboratory opened by Sealed Air Cryovac
This new Food Packaging (development & utilization) laboratory will serve to collect quantitative data and help clients scientifically assess packaging solutions when used for in-pack heat treatment for preservation or by end-users in the preparation of the meal products. This unique facility complements the recently inaugurated Ready Meals training facility in Packforum® Paris, adding more valuable tools which allow Sealed Air Cryovac to best serve the prepared foods market.
On June 3, 2008, Jean-Marie Demeautis, President of the Cryovac Food Solutions business unit of Sealed Air, inaugurated the world class installations of the new Food Packaging Laboratory, installed within the Sealed Air premises in Passirana di Rho, Italy.
Equipped with state of the art analytical devices, the Food Packaging Lab is able to run numerous measurement tests linked to the thermal treatment of prepared food. A variety of microwave and traditional ovens are installed in a spacious room, monitored by infrared cameras and ad hoc probes connected to specific softwares.
The Food Packaging Lab is a real laboratory where hard facts can be collected and analyzed. It serves to help Sealed Air customers scientifically assess the value of a packaging option compared to another one when it is submitted to all types of heat treatment, including pasteurization. Several key players of the European prepared foods market have already made appointments regarding existing or future projects evaluation.
The Food Packaging Lab is run by a team of specialists from the Ready Meals application support group. It is an ideal complement to the newly launched Ready Meals training facility in Sealed Air Packforum® Paris. Both facilities can host the Cryovac Food Engineering Courses, the first one focusing on the microwave cooking/re-heating technology.
