Polish wages up over ten percent
Average wages in the corporate sector fell by 2.2% m/m in May, 2008 and were up by 10.5% in annual terms amounting to PLN 3069.43, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) announced on Monday.
Average employment in the enterprise sector was up unchanged on the month in May, whereas year-on-year it rose by 5.4%, GUS reported. Employment in the enterprise sector amounted to 5,389,800 persons.
In the whole of 2007, enterprise wages were up by 9.2% and employment rose by 4.7%.
Analysts surveyed by the news agency ISB had expected wages growth of 11.5% y/y (range: 9.7-13.4%) on the average and employment’s - of 5.5% (range: 5.4-5.6%).
