AUTOMATICA, which took place between 10 and 13 June 2008 on 32,000 square metres (net) of exhibition space at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre, set a new record for visitor and exhibitor numbers. This year the event attracted over 30,000 trade visitors from around 90 countries (2006: 28,479 from 84 countries). Over 7,000 of these visitors were from outside Germany, which represents an international participation of around one quarter.

As well as Germany, the top countries of origin among the visitors were Austria, Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Slovenia, Denmark, France, Sweden and the US.

Around 30 percent of exhibitors came from outside Germany

At AUTOMATICA 2008 around 870 exhibitors from 41 countries (2006: 814 exhibitors from 37 countries) presented their product innovations and services in the fields of assembly and handling technology, robotics, machine vision and associated technologies. The proportion of exhibitors from abroad rose to around 30 percent.

High level of satisfaction among exhibitors and visitors

A good mood among exhibitors and visitors – that was the dominant picture in all five exhibition halls. Many exhibitors reported having excellent talks at their stands with well prepared visitors. They also reported business agreements concluded at the fair.

The visitors to AUTOMATICA were also highly satisfied. According to a survey conducted by opinion researchers tns infratest, 97 out of 100 visitors are planning to visit AUTOMATICA again in 2010.

Concept behind AUTOMATICA a resounding success

Arne Lakeit, Head of Overall Planning at Audi Deutschland agrees entirely with this positive summary: “The portfolio of AUTOMATICA represents a good platform for Audi as a systems user. This is an efficient forum where we can discuss solutions with our suppliers, in line with our motto of ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ – from individual components through to the application of entire systems.” This comment shows impressively that the concept behind AUTOMATICA, of bringing together under one roof the areas of assembly and handling technology, robotics, machine vision and the associated technologies, all with equal weighting, has been a resounding success.

The clearly structured arrangement of the themes within the halls at AUTOMATICA ensures that this trade fair is an effective, business-oriented platform.

International media turn out in force

The exceptionally strong presence of the media at AUTOMATICA was very noticeable – representatives came from over 20 countries. Not only print journalists attended the fair, but also a sizeable number of radio and TV reporters. Norbert Bargmann, Managing Director of Messe München GmbH emphasised: “We are very happy with how things have gone at AUTOMATICA 2008. Also because we were extensively reported in the German and international media. Around 500 trade journalists are communicating the positive messages of AUTOMATICA worldwide. Now also increasingly on TV and radio.”

Thilo Brodtmann, Managing Director of VDMA Robotik + Automation, describes the mood in the sector: “We are pleased that our exhibitors have expressed such a high level of satisfaction, which itself is a reflection of the greater international spread and excellent quality of the trade visitors. AUTOMATICA has established itself as a top international event in our sector.”
