Barometr Manpower Perspektyw Zatrudnienia results for the third quarter reveal positive hiring intentions among employers from all regions and industry sectors in Poland

Manpower Poland launches today the second  Barometr Manpower Perspektyw Zatrudnienia. The survey is conducted by interviewing a representative sample of 750 Polish employers across 10 industry sectors[1] and 6 regions[2]. The results reveal that those employers interviewed are optimistic about adding employees to their workforces in the third quarter of the year with the strongest job prospects reported by employers in the Mining & Quarrying (+47%) and Construction (+45%) sectors and in the Central region (+34%).

The Net Employment Outlook for Poland is an optimistic +29%. The Net Employment Outlook is derived from information gathered from one single question: “How do you anticipate total employment at your location to change in the three months to the end of September 2008 as compared to the current quarter?” The Outlook is the result of taking the percentage of employers who anticipate an increase in hiring activity and subtracting from this the percentage of employers that expect to see a decrease in employment at their location in the following quarter. The forecast is slightly less positive than a quarter ago, when the Net Employment Outlook for Poland was +30%. This quarter, 59% of employers say they will make no change to their workforce during the upcoming three months.

Employers in all of the industry sectors reported positive hiring projections with the most optimistic employers in the Mining and Quarrying (+47%) and Construction (+45%) sectors. The Outlook improves by a considerable 10 percentage points in the Mining & Quarrying sector, while it declines by a moderate seven percentage points in the Construction sector from the second quarter.

In regional comparisons, positive hiring intentions were reported by employers in all of the six regions in Poland. Employers in the Central with łódzkie and mazowieckie as well as the South with małopolskie and śląskie, report the most optimistic hiring activity for the third quarter of 2008 with Net Employment Outlooks of +34% and +32%, respectively. In both cases, the projections are stronger than those in the second quarter with slight improvements of 3 and 2 percentage points, respectively.

“We are very glad that the second edition of Barometr Manpower Perspektyw Zatrudnienia

proves a positive trend for Polish labor market. This is a good news both for employees and employers who just gain additional evidence of the relative strength of the market they operate in,” Iwona Janas, Manpower Country Manager Poland comments. “Manpower consultants observe greater demand for employees in all of the sectors in Polish economy and Barometr Manpower only confirms our market knowledge,” Iwona Janas adds.

Looking at the results on the global level, the most favorable third quarter hiring plans were reported by employers in India and Singapore with an Outlook of +45% and +42%, respectively. Employers in Peru, Poland, Costa Rica, Hong Kong and Romania all report Net Employment Outlooks from strong to robust. Conversely, employers in Spain, Italy and Ireland report the weakest job prospects for the quarter ahead (-2%, +1%, +2% respectively).

Of the European countries, employers in Poland and Romania and Greece are most optimistic about adding to their workforces. The Net Employment Outlooks for the countries is: +29%, +26% and +19%, respectively. Notably, the Outlooks for France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom were either stable or slightly improved compared to the second quarter 2008.
