From old to new technology
Many packaging machine users are not aware that an outdated operating system can be upgraded to a modern version with very little effort. In developing Pac2Touch, Uhlmann has come up with an upgrade system that allows smooth transition from PacControl to TouchControl, i.e. from the old to the new operating world.
PacControl, with which older Uhlmann machines operate, unfortunately ranks among the operating systems that have meanwhile been outstripped by technological progress. Since 2003, Uhlmann machines have been supplied with TouchControl, the latest operating and visualization system currently available. Direct machine upgrading from PacControl to TouchControl would be very extensive and involve complex intervention in the machine system. Pac2Touch provides a sensible solution. Uhlmann attached great importance to straightforward implementation during development of the system. Only the Pac2Touch hardware differs from TouchControl. The software based on Windows is completely identical.
Pac2Touch offers many benefits. The new graphic user interface is intuitively understandable and easy to operate. All functions are station-oriented and arranged very clearly. The previous function-oriented configuration is also available as an optional addition. This makes the changeover easier for operating personnel. The data and system management is also noticeably improved with Pac2Touch. Thanks to the operating system Windows XP Embedded, straightforward user administration and auto logout, machine protocols and remote maintenance are standard features.
Cost-efficient alternatives to purchasing a new machine
For the company based in Laupheim, Germany, modernization plays a key role in all areas. The Customer Support & Services division, for example, offers various solutions to adapt machines and upgrade them for future-oriented production. The benefits are diverse: ranging from the guaranteed availability of spare parts, improved quality, productivity and flexibility to conformity with current standards and regulations of the pharmaceutical industry. The acceptance of machines involves carrying out appropriate measurements (VDE DIN EN 60204) in accordance with applicable regulations. For Uhlmann, modernization also means greater reliability for customers, products and processes.
