Awards for Crown
The Institute of Packaging has recognized Crown with seven Starpack Awards for the company’s recent contributions to the field of packaging. Featuring distinctive design, shaping and convenience technologies, the prized packages were created by various Crown business units to drive marketing goals for products as diverse as pet food, biscuits and garden shears.
Crown’s Food Europe business unit received two Gold Awards in the Technical Development and Consumer Products categories for its breakthrough Easylift™ easy-open end technology. In addition, Easylift™ easy-open ends have also won a Special Award in the Consumer Convenience category for its great functionality and technical innovation. Launched with Nestlé Purina Petcare Europe on its 400g cat and dog food products, this end represents a new standard in convenience packaging. Its improved finger access makes it easier and quicker for consumers to open canned foods without using extra tooling – a remarkable benefit for seniors, children and those with limited motor skills.
CROWN Speciality Packaging was also recognized with multiple awards, including a Gold Award in Best Food Design. This prize was granted for a sophisticated, reusable container specially designed for the re-launch of Fortnum & Mason’s premium coffee range in recognition of the company’s 300 year anniversary. Incorporating hermetic sealing technology to ensure product freshness, the commemorative tin sports a fashionable design which enables Fortnum & Mason to convey a high-end look at the retail shelf.
The Bronze Award in the Best Food Design category also went to Speciality Packaging for a uniquely formed package used by Lambertz to launch its Best Selection line of premium chocolate biscuits. Featuring a square outline with irregularly profiled corners, black and gold color scheme and special crackle over-varnish, the container exudes the brand’s messaging of elegance and high-end quality.
A custom-shaped package developed to help Bosch Group introduce its new line of handheld, cordless power shears was another winner for CROWN Speciality Packaging. Honored with a Bronze Award in Best Brand Design, the container features an irregular, tube-like shape, light green and silver color scheme and high-quality printing. This combination of attributes allows the package to convey a premium image at retail and appeal to a wide demographic of do-it-yourself (DIY) consumers, including women.
Additionally, a Silver Award for Best Brand Design was presented to CROWN Aerosols Europe for an asymmetrical, 400g aerosol dispenser developed to launch Wera Tools’ Kraftform Fluid range of screwdriver lubricants and protectants. Shaped to resemble the appearance of the successful Kraftform® screwdriver, the stand-out package clearly conveys the product’s purpose to consumers while enabling easy gripping and product dispensing.
“We are extremely pleased and honored to be recognized this year with so many Starpack Awards. This is a testament to the creativity and value that we bring to our customers on a daily basis,” says Chris Homfray, President, CROWN Europe. “We will continue to push new boundaries in the future as we work toward building brands with innovative packaging.”
Introduced in 1960 and awarded annually, the Starpack Awards have become the British packaging industry’s most prestigious awards. The awards strive to raise packaging standards in the UK by encouraging creativity.
