First global foil conference held last month

“We chose Oman for the conference because of its central location between Europe and Asia and its openness towards doing business with the international community,” said EAFA President Fred McDonogh. “The response to the conference far exceeded our expectations and the delegates represented more than 75 per cent of the global foil industry.”
“It was a very successful forum to explore not only mutual interests such as the positive global market development, but also to identify our responsibility for sustainable development along alufoil’s value chain. And there was common understanding to further explore and to ensure ‘one voic’ messages on foil’s contribution to sustainable consumption.”
The delegates from the international aluminium foil roller industry identified a range of challenges and opportunities in terms of growing global markets but also in terms of sustainable development. “The unique properties of aluminium foil contribute essentially to a more sustainable society in terms of resource efficiency e.g. by preventing food spoilage and saving resources in transportation due to lightweight packaging. These properties indeed obglige us to further explore our possible contributions to sustainable food consumption and to better communicate these benefits to improve the visibility of aluminium foil.”
The participants agreed on these objectives and on the great success of the first global foil roller gathering; and all delegates showed clear interest in a follow-up conference to monitor collaborative progress towards sustainability.
Organised by the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) and sponsored by Oman based and shortly on stream going primary producer Sohar Aluminium, and the worldwide leading supplier for foil mills, Achenbach Buschhütten, the aim of the conference was to encourage international support for a broad range of foil sustainability projects as well as showcase new developments in the aluminium foil industry.
The European Aluminium Foil Association is the international body representing companies engaged in the rolling and rewinding of alufoil and in the manufacture of alufoil containers and of all kind of flexible packaging. It has more than 120 members include companies in Western, Central and Eastern Europe.
