A good year and a half before drinktec 2009, the World Fair for Beverage and Liquid Food Technology, gets under way, 67,500 square metres of exhibition space have already been booked. That is about three-quarters of the space taken up at the last drinktec in 2005.

Petra Westphal, Exhibition Director of drinktec 2009, puts this strong demand down to the early and intensive communication with exhibitors: “We started on space allocation three months earlier than last time, and we are now seeing the results. Also, we began talking to our exhibitors in good time about their next presentation. In addition, we are reaping the rewards of flying the flag for drinktec at many events in the international beverages industry, and seeking personal contacts. drinktec enjoys an excellent reputation within the sector.”

The proportion of international exhibitors is already at around 45% and we fully expect this to rise to at least 50% by the time the fair opens. What is especially pleasing is that 9% of the registrations received so far are from first-time exhibitors. You can take a look at which exhibitors have registered by clicking on the new Exhibitor Database at www.drinktec.com.

In the registration documents for drinktec 2009 the exhibitors are asked for the first time to name the segments of the beverages market that they target. Of the companies that have registered so far, there were 375 mentions of beer and brewing, followed by 323 of soft drinks and 305 of water. The fruit juice industry received a significant number of mentions (306). Milk and liquid food products were named 230 times, and liquid food 201 times. The wine, sparkling wine and spirits segment was mentioned 267 times. Multiple nominations were possible.

This survey result is, according to Petra Westphal, “proof that drinktec presents a comprehensive display of all areas of technology, and is at home in all markets. Our exhibitors, whether large or small, target the entire beverages industry with their portfolios. The survey also makes clear that the soft drinks and water section is now a dominant part, and that the fair is recognised as a competence centre for milk, liquid food and fruit juice.”
