Bosch Packaging Technology, a global leader in processing and packaging technology for the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries, introduces new additions to its product portfolio at Interpack 2008 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The demand in the pharmaceutical industry is driven by biotechnological innovation, demographics of an aging population, and emerging geographical markets in developing regions such as China and India. Trends in drug delivery, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, biopharmaceutical, and vaccine development, as well as cost pressures worldwide have forced manufacturers to call on packaging and processing partners to address a constantly changing marketplace.

To compete effectively, it is increasingly important to develop engineering partnerships with packaging firms to design automated and integrated processing and packaging solutions. To meet these challenges, Bosch introduces:

The new GKF HiProTect is an integrated containment capsule filling system for processing potent substances. The new machine answers the growing need for pharmaceutical researchers and manufacturers to be completely protected from active substances during operation, maintenance, and cleaning. The GKF HiProTect offers

fully integrated 100% check weighing system and features integrated wash-in-place and clean-in-place options.

The FXS 2010 is a fully automatic filling and sealing machine for pre-sterilized nested syringes in a tub, such as BD Hypak SCF™. It is specifically designed for filling syringes with volumes between 0.5 millilitre up to 50 millilitre and has a performance output of up to 4,800 syringes per hour. All product contacting parts are made out of stainless steel (AISI 316L) and the machine is easily operated by means of a touch panel. In addition, the transportation system and each pump are individually controlled by servo motors, and the nests are manually placed in and removed from the machine.

The FXS 5100 is a filling and sealing machine for pre-sterilized nested syringes. Its pump station with 10 filling positions for rotary piston pumps is driven by a 2-axis servo system. Performance output is up to 30,000 per hour, and it handles syringe ranges from 0.5 millilitre up to 50 millilitre. The system provides extreme filling needle precision and adaptability to different formats and products.

The VRK 4120 capping system for vials features precision vial placement via an infeed wheel. Overseal capping is performed by sealing rollers, guaranteeing negligible particle generation. The VRK 4120 features 12 closing heads with a processing range between 2 to 500 millilitre with a maximum output of 27,000 vials per hour. Vial rotation is monitored and confirmed by a monitoring system, and vials are rejected when stoppers and caps are missing.

Sigpack Systems, a Bosch Packaging Technology Company, will also showcase the award-winning Burgopak packaging system, which features a patented sliding mechanism that is suitable for pharmaceutical packaging formats. The key benefit this unique and user-friendly slide mechanism offers is to differentiate it from other products in a particularly competitive market.

“Bosch’s packaging and processing technology is oriented around a holistic approach that allows manufacturers to make strategic, long-term decisions when acquiring a piece of capital equipment,” says Sören Bräutigam, Director of Global Marketing for Bosch Packaging Technology. “With an emphasis on quality, efficiency, and high functionality, Bosch’s flexible technology enables producers to proactively respond to market trends in this sometimes volatile sector. We are not just machine builders, we are long-term partners who help companies compete and grow in a crowded market space.”
