Protection against humidity and grease
Transport and storage of sensitive goods, such as foodstuffs, set high demands on corrugated board packages. Humidity, grease and mechanical damage may harm a box, putting its content also at risk.
An effective way to prevent this from happening is to use Walki’s WALKIÒBarrier Lining as protection around corrugated board. The product consists of paper and liner typically laminated with polyethylene (PE) to form a protective barrier. Other web materials, such as PET, aluminium or nonwoven can also be used for this purpose. Protection is optimised for each individual product by adjusting the thickness of the PE layer.
“What’s good about the lining is that it offers two-way protection: the goods are shielded from external damage and the box itself from humid or wet content,” says Jan-Anders Fagerhed, Technical Service Manager.
WALKIÒBarrier Lining is an excellent replacement for waxed liners.
Strong box and attractive print
WALKIÒBarrier Lining also helps to keep the box in shape. Corrugated board without a barrier layer quickly loses its strength if stored in facilities with high relative air humidity, but with barrier lining compression and stacking strength can be improved. The barrier lining also offers excellent print qualities that contribute to the appearance of the box.
“The amount of raw material needed for corrugated board boxes can be reduced by using WALKIÒBarrier Lining. This means resource savings for both the package manufacturer and the environment,” says Fagerhed.
WALKIÒBarrier Lining products are completely recyclable when separated into their component materials.
