Looking at syringes
Technical variants in the field of pre-filled syringes, special tailoring of materials to cater for highly sensitive drugs, security aspects across the field of injections: subjects such as these characterise the ‘Pre-Filled Syringes Forum 2008’ which is being held on 17 and 18 January in the Radisson-Plaza Warwick, Philadelphia (USA). In a special display, Gerresheimer presents to visitors from the world of
pharmacy a cross-section of innovative technological
developments directed above all at the growth area of sterile
syringes.
Gerresheimer has for a considerable time concentrated intensively
on this highly advanced sector, and enjoys a worldwide reputation
as a technology leader. “RTF® sterile syringes which we deliver to the
pharma industry completely ready-to-fill have now clearly overtaken
bulkware systems in terms of business share”, says Burkhard
Lingenberg, Director of Marketing and Communication for the
Gerresheimer Group. Production capacity for sterile all-glass syringes
alone has once again doubled in the past year and, because of the
continuing rapid growth in demand, the Group has already brought
forward an investment decision for further expansion, with
commissioning now planned for early next year.
Experts from the Gerresheimer competence centre at Bünde in
Germany await visitors to the symposium with well-informed advice
about these and other key subjects. With the increasing importance
of highly sensitive biotechnology products, for example, particular
focus has moved to special processes such as baked-on siliconisation,
through which Gerresheimer offers a popular option for interior
surface treatment. Strong interest is also likely to be aroused by its
multi-function syringe accessories, which are achieving spectacular
growth rates around the world: these include the Rigid Needle
Shield (RNS), an effective needle-protection system which also
guards against the danger of needle-prick injuries, and the
Tamper Evident Luerlock Closure (TELC), which combines the tamper-evident
syringe closure and the needle adapter in a single component. The
enormous need for progress of this kind and the priorities set by the
market in this regard are documented not only by the sales figures
but also by up-to-date market studies and international awards.
As a pharma and life-science partner, Gerresheimer today ranks
among the globally leading specialists in the field of glass and plastic
products for drug delivery. The Group’s repertory comprises
standard products as well as a highly innovative full-service project
business, and ranges from classical pharmaceutical vials to highly
sophisticated inhalation appliances. With thirty-seven production
locations in America, Europe and Asia, Gerresheimer is at home
around the world.
