First hygiene packaging award goes to German firm
The German Association for the Certification of Quality Management Systems (DQS) has certified NORDENIA DEUTSCHLAND Halle GmbH, plant Steinfeld, in accordance with the prEN 15593 standard, making it the first company worldwide to earn the certification. The new guideline sets standards that apply to hygiene management during the production of food packaging. Experts from the German Association for the Certification of Quality Management Systems (DQS) recently presented the prEN 15593 certificate to Markus Hoedebeck, the Hygiene Representative, in Steinfeld.
NORDENIA DEUTSCHLAND Halle GmbH, plant Steinfeld, is one of the world’s leading companies in developing and manufacturing flexible reclosable packaging for the food and pet food industries. The company has been certified in accordance with the BRC/IoP and HACCP standards by the DQS since 2004. The standards, along with the ISO 9001 standard, formed the basis for the development of the prEN 15593 standard. The objective is to create a universal, internationally applicable standard for food packaging manufacturers. “By earning the prEN 15593 certification, we not only fulfill another internationally standardized guideline. We also continue to increase our reliability in meeting hygiene requirements during the production of packaging for the food industry for our customers,” Markus Hoedebeck says.
The DQS believes that being certified in accordance with prEN 15593 has other advantages as well, “In the future, it will be easier to integrate the audit procedures regarding quality, environment, and work safety into hygiene management,” Joachim Mehnert, Manager Food Safety at the DQS, explains.
In the food and pet food industries, it is absolutely necessary to safeguard products and packaging from contamination during the entire production process. While conducting the certification audit, the DQS experts performed a close inspection of the hygiene conditions in the Production Department, the plant buildings, and the staff area. Their conclusion: plant Steinfeld fulfills all regulations of the new standard.
