Organic food claimed to be hot topic
During the International food fairs SALIMA which will be staged at the Brno Exhibition Centre from March 4 – 7, 2008, special attention will be drawn to the Organic food and organic agriculture products segment.
Why SALIMA and ORGANIC?
A trend of the recent years has been a gradual change in catering habits of the population, in particular aimed at the efforts of a healthy lifestyle and an enhanced living standard of Czech consumers. The buyers have been focused ever more than in the past on quality and environmental aspects of the food offered Organic food has become part of consumer’s purchase decisions and is ranked among the fastest growing segments in the food industry.
The worldwide market in organic food in 2006 attained 30.9 bill. EUR and organic food has been the fastest growing food market segment worldwide. For several years this segment has been rising in Europe by more than 15 percent per year on average and even advanced organic markets grow fast again. The number of consumers regularly purchasing organic food has been quickly increasing and with it also the number of shops offering organic food - from farm outlets and farmers markets through hotels and restaurants, school and enterprise canteens and hospitals up to retail shops and discounters. Experts predict that by 2010 the world organic food turnover will double.
Organic food is not new at the SALIMA food fairs in Brno. In the past years lots of companies offering organic food exhibited at the SALIMA food fair. Since 2004 SALIMA has been intensely cooperating with the Czech Organic Farmers Association PRO-BIO.
The International Food Fairs SALIMA 2008 will enable organic farmers, processors and traders in organic food to present their products and services to the international specialist public. SALIMA supports organic food of Czech provenance and wants to increase awareness of their qualities and advantages by means of its accompanying activities aimed at ORGANIC segment.
Competition show TRENDS and new category of GO Organic!
In 2008 the project TRENDS, very successful in the past SALIMA run, will be enlarged by the new category GO Organic! presenting organic foodstuffs and products of organic agriculture. GO Organic! will offer visitors a survey of novelties in organic food on the Czech market.
What else can visitors look forward to?
International conference called “Organic food in public catering” will be held within the SALIMA 2008 congress with the goal to introduce organic food in the gastronomy and public catering segment. Renowned international speakers will present their view on the quickly growing segment.
A complex offer of organic food by suppliers will be presented in a model “Organic market at the corner”.

Czech Organic Product 2007 – Award ceremony of the best Czech organic food
On the occasion of the SALIMA Fair, the 6th Annual Czech Organic Product 2007 Competition will culminate and the winner will be awarded at a ceremonial Gala evening. The goal of the Czech Organic Product Competition is to support excellent quality of the whole organic food supply chain, encourage new Czech organic manufacturers and promote the advantages of organic food and farming. BVV Trade Fairs Brno is the competition partner and will support it considerably in the future.
