SALIMA – the International Food Fairs is the most important exhibition project focused on foodstuffs and food technologies in Central Europe. Since 2002 they have been staged on a two-year basis as the two-year interval better complies with their professional and contracting character and also with the innovation cycle of the presented technologies. The next fairs will be held from 4 to 7 March 2008 and will consist of: SALIMA – the 26th International Food Fair; MBK – the 4th International Milling Industry, Bakery and Confectionery Fair; INTECO – the 23rd International Fair of Equipment for Retail Trade, Hotels and Catering Facilities; and VINEX – the 13th International Wine Fair.

Looking back at the last fair

In 2006 the International Food Fairs were attended by 1089 firms from 39 countries; 14 countries had official representations. The turnout was 40,000 visitors from 60 countries. Organised missions of experts from abroad were from Austria, the Baltic States, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. The overall share of professional visitors from abroad was 13.4 %. A total of 420 journalists from 9 countries were accredited and among the visitors we saw a number of VIP’s, government delegations headed by the EC Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection Markos Kypriani and delegations from eight EU member countries representing agriculture and the food industry.

BIO foodstuffs – the TOP subject of the SALIMA 2008 food fairs

At the SALIMA food fairs special attention will be devoted to organic foodstuffs and organic agriculture. The latest trend is a gradual change in the eating habits of the population, which has much to do particularly with attempts at a healthy life style and naturally with an increasing standard of living of Czech consumers. When buying food the customers now focus more than in the past on quality, nutritional values and environmental aspects of the foodstuffs. Organic foodstuffs are now more frequently part and parcel of consumer shopping and rank among the fastest growing categories in sales of foodstuffs. The International Food Fairs SALIMA 2008 will offer the organic farmers, processors and distributors of organic foodstuffs the opportunity to come forward and to present their products and services to the international professional audience. SALIMA supports organic foodstuffs of domestic origin and by means of the accompanying activities focuses on the BIO segment to contribute to the general awareness of their quality and advantages.

TRENDS 2008 – continuation of a successful project

The TRENDS project had its premiere at the last SALIMA fairs. The objective is to present the latest products for health, new trends in food and beverage production, modern trends in eating and their close connection with a healthy life style and modern eating. The whole project will be divided into six categories, one more than in 2006. The “GO Future!” category will present foodstuffs of the future; the focus of the “GO Trends!” category is on foodstuffs for an active life; “GO Travel!” presents national specialities and the international cuisine. The “GO Kids!” category is devoted to eating habits of children and the young. In the category “GO Special!” the visitors will find special and dietary foodstuffs. The new sixth category is “GO Organic!” where certified BIO foodstuffs will be on show. In the finals each of the categories will introduce the best product or conception, which the jury will select. Participation in the project is not dependent on attendance at the fair.
