A year ago, Korsnäs Packaging merged with Segezha Pulp & Paper and gave birth to a new industry player and the 2nd largest paper sack producer in the world.

New strong name in paper sacks
“This is a historic moment for our company as well as our industry, as one well-known and respected name disappears and a new one is born”, says Peter Buckley, CEO & President of Segezha Packaging. “The aim of the new Segezha Packaging is to be the fastest growing paper sack company in the world through major investments in technology, capacity and employee development“.

Intensive integration processes
After the merger, the two companies have continued under each their individual names, but internally there has been intensive work to integrate the two sack units. ”Our aim has been to unite the strengths of both companies to become an even stronger partner for our customers and that goal we have now achieved”, Peter Buckley says. The strength of the new name and brand image reflects the creation of an even stronger supplier of paper sacks on the global market – Segezha Packaging is already the market leader in a number of the markets and sectors in which it operates.

Through the creation of Segezha Packaging, the company has also become an integrated part of the InvestLesProm Group (ILP), which includes a range of forestry, pulp & paper, fibreboard and paper packaging operations. This Group is emerging as a key player in the forest products sector. ”Being part of ILP ensures a strong owner, who is prepared to support our future development. It also guarantees an uninterrupted chain from the forest via the paper production to the conversion into paper sacks. Through ILP, we have direct access to our key raw material - high quality sack paper”, Peter Buckley explains.

More than a name change
The new Segezha Packaging is characterized by an expansive growth strategy. The ambition to be the fastest growing paper sack company in the world involves major investments in technology, capacity and employee development. ”Our customers want their operations to run as smoothly and cost-effectively as possible. They want their packaging delivered on time; they want added value, uninterrupted supply, optimum uptime and zero defects. With the high quality focus combined with the low cost production set-up we have now, we’re geared to delivering just that”, Peter Buckley states. Substantial efforts continue to ensure improvements on quality, capacity and technical capability in all our plants.

Global suppliers win
”For the multinationals, who make up the majority of Segezha Packaging’s customers, the new set-up represents many advantages”, Peter Buckley says. ”Our customers operate in many different countries and, therefore, need a packaging partner capable of handling both global and local concerns. We have geared our organization to meet exactly those needs. Divided into four regions – representing markets which are similar in terms of requirements, language and culture – we can provide a differentiated focus in each region, helping us to create new synergies and to match our clients where they are”, Peter Buckley explains. With production facilities and sales offices in more than 24 countries, Segezha Packaging may be situated close to both headquarters and local productions.

Segezha Packaging, with its new name and brand, will quickly come to symbolize true leadership in the paper sack industry and become a mark of the highest levels of quality, customer service and innovation.
