Multisorb Technologies, the global leader in active packaging solutions, today announced it has won an important patent infringement case against Süd-Chemie, Inc., a company headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. Süd-Chemie had alleged infringement of the U.S. Patent No. 5793942 by Multisorb’s TranSorb® sorbent packs. On September 7, 2007, the United States District Court in the Western District of Kentucky ruled Süd-Chemie’s patent invalid, and dismissed Sud Chemie’s patent infringement case against Multisorb.

Multisorb will continue to sell Transorb® sorbent packs, which are designed specifically for use within ocean cargo containers to protect products against moisture damage during international and domestic shipping. These sorbent packs adsorb moisture from the atmosphere that builds up in containers and condenses when temperature changes.  This can cause rusting, peeling of labels and wrinkled packaging, among other types of damage.  The sorbent packs are available in a variety of formats, including Transorb with net bags, hooks, and self-adhesive backing.  The product line safeguards a multitude of products, such as machinery, canned goods, leather and steel products against rust.

Multisorb’s executive vice president and COO, Jim Renda said, “This is an important victory for us, as we have made significant investments in developing the Transorb technology.” He added, “We are happy with the district court’s decision, which will allow us to offer the Transorb product line to better serve the needs of our customers.”
