Mondi Group (‘Mondi’) has announced that following a corporate sustainability leadership assessment by SAM Group, Mondi has been awarded membership to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and the Pan-European Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index (DJSI STOXX).

Mondi, which became a dual-listed business in July 2007 with listings in London and Johannesburg, is the only company from the forestry and paper sector that is represented in both the DJSI World and the DJSI STOXX.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, which were launched in 1999, follow a best-in-class approach and include the sustainability leaders from each industry on a global and regional level. The annual review is based on an integrated assessment of corporate economic, environmental and social performance with a strong focus on long-term shareholder value.

David Hathorn, Mondi Chief Executive, said: “We are proud of this recognition and especially the fact that we are the only business in our sector to have been awarded membership on both DJSI World and DJSI STOXX indexes.

“Being a sustainable organisation is fundamental to our aim of being the world’s best-performing paper and packaging business, and this inclusion is an important indicator that we are on the right track and making significant progress.  We have a lot more to do for our stakeholders, the environment, the communities in which we work and society at large, and we will continue to strive for performance improvements.”
