A. Frey Verpackungsentwickungen und Vertriebs GmbH, Mindelheim has developed an extremely efficient packaging system in the form of "Zipp + Knack". The solution can be seen in the combination of all requirements made by partners involved in the packaging procedure and has resulted in a stable, economical, 1-part packaging with a reliable and precise opening system.

The basic idea is quite simple, as you can see: The packaging can be opened (with the Zipp feature) more precisely and safely and then snapped (”Knack”) apart into two separate or connecting trays due to its wrap-around or pre-glued cut and counter-scoring technology.

The processing advantages in the compact cardboard designed in a sandwich construction are all-important for the success of “Zipp & Knack”. The recycling layer laminated with primary fibre paper has an additional moisture-retardant barrier due to a special laminated glue. The counter-scoring is stamped into the material from both sides. On opening the packaging, the recycling fibres between both scores are torn. The primary fibre papers prevent undefined tearing due to their high tear strength. The result is stable packaging with a clearly defined tear line, which takes up a lot less space on the pallet than corrugated cardboard packaging. And the compact cardboard with its smooth surface structure provides packaging designers with the ideal prerequisite for designing high-quality packaging.

The “Zipp” technology is also beneficial to the packaging industry for many different reasons: Enormous savings potential due to the 1-part construction, up to 50% lower material costs, cost reduction due to direct and also brilliant offset printing, optimal handling in case of manual packaging, high efficiency in automatic packaging processes and low packaging volume due to high pile density.

The “Zipp” concept also takes into consideration the factor of “logistics costs”: Shortened storage periods in cool storage due to optimised cooling performance, flexible packaging units for additional listing, low logistics costs for businesses due to high piling density and module measurements as well as low costs in case of picking, as the unit of calculation = unit of packaging.

Businesses benefit from optimal handling: Fast and simple opening using to the clearly defined line guarantees economical shelf maintenance, clean counter-scoring lines provide high-quality product presentation at POS and offer additional purchasing incentives, low packaging volume = low disposal costs and the compact cardboard is 100% recyclable.
