New Fasson® Lean Film™ thinner-gauge self-adhesive film labelstocks will challenge current conceptions of the cost of quality self-adhesive film labelling for bulk products in the personal and home care markets. The range is launched at Labelexpo by Avery Dennison, who say its unique proposition is the instant time- and cost-savings it creates for both brand owners and label converters.

Fasson Lean Film brings these benefits through a combination of patent-pending Avery Dennison innovation and an understanding of the market’s current issues and needs. The machine-direction-oriented film is produced using proprietary Avery Dennison technology.

The practical benefits
Jan ‘t Hart, Senior Product Manager, Avery Dennison Roll Materials Europe, explains the thinking behind Fasson Lean Film: ‘The key feature of this unique product innovation is the thinness of the facestock, which delivers significant improvement in the number of printed labels per converted reel of labelstock. With “cheeses” nearly 30% longer, converters can benefit from fewer reel changes on the press. Based on customer trials, we see estimated average savings of around 22% less downtime — which creates real improvements in production efficiency. On the label dispensing line, fewer reel changes are also a tangible downtime-saving benefit for brand owners. This is particularly true in FMCG fields where margins are squeezed, and cost-effective packaging — without compromising visual appeal — is essential.

‘It’s also worth remembering that the lower caliper of the films has a benefit in reducing environmental impact all round — a growing priority for brand owners and retailers. Thinner film, more labels per reel, less stops on the printing press and the label dispensing line, lower weight and bulk for transportation and its associated energy costs, all add up to “leaner” manufacturing, handling, and end use.’

Key markets
Developed specifically for long-run label applications in key areas such as the personal and home care markets, Fasson Lean Film has been optimised for primary product labels in a range of typical label sizes, applied to smooth container surfaces. Available in transparent and white, both topcoated and non-topcoated, Fasson Lean Film is supplied with Fasson S692N permanent, multi-purpose adhesive, and BG40 White glassine release liner.

Filling a market gap
Fasson Lean Film joins the established portfolio of Fasson proprietary labelling films to fill a real gap in the market. Jan ‘t Hart believes it has the potential to take more than 70% of the bulk film label market. He says: ‘Fasson Lean Film perfectly complements our range of premium machine-direction-oriented films which are the perfect choice where exceptional all-round performance is critical. ‘

A real game-changer
Mr ‘t Hart continues: ‘Fasson Lean Film is sure to become the industry’s workhorse for the many, many labels where the ability to cope with difficult application and complex converting criteria are not a requirement. It can deliver a cost-effective, game-changing solution at all levels of the label supply chain.’
