Extremely satisfied faces at the end of the exhibitions on 27 September with 33,975* visitors (2006: 33,056*) and 1,319* exhibitors (2006: 1,325*) at FachPack+PrintPack+LogIntern 2007. The Nürnberg exhibition trio radiated far beyond Germany and again proved to be one of the key packaging exhibitions in Europe. Claus Rättich, Member of the Management Board of NürnbergMesse: “A constructive working atmosphere probably best describes the mood of the three days at the exhibitions. The economy in Germany and in many neighbouring countries is booming, the exhibition ran excellently and the whole packaging industry can look forward to some lively follow-up business.” The exhibition trio increased its space to 48,400*m2 (2006: 47,690*m2) and filled ten exhibition halls.

The efficient German packaging industry was traditionally powerfully represented with 1,068 companies, but 251 companies mainly from the neighbouring countries of Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, France, Belgium and the Czech Republic also provided a comprehensive range of products and services.

The German trade visitors came mainly from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Many packaging experts from the neighbouring countries were also inspired by the good mood in Germany. A total of 16 % international visitors travelled to Nürnberg from countries like Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, Slovenia, Poland, France and Hungary. Industries like
printing/paper processing, food/luxury goods, electrical equipment manufacture, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, automotive components and plastic processing, plus packaging- and logistics-related services were strongly represented. Over 90 % of the visitors are involved in procurement decisions according to the results of the survey conducted by an independent institute. Virtually everyone visited FachPack, almost half of them also took a look at LogIntern and 30 % PrintPack. The display of products was exactly right for 96 % of the FachPack/PrintPack visitors and 91 % of the LogIntern visitors. The reasons for visiting are headed by obtaining information about new products, followed by market orientation, training, cultivating existing business contacts and paving the way for new ones, exchanging views, preparing for investment decisions and concluding contracts.

LogIntern: the youngest of the trio thrives in a pleasant atmosphere
Of the three exhibitions, LogIntern grew particularly well in terms of space. The youngest of the trio started as an independent exhibition for intralogistics for the first time in 2003 with some 80 exhibitors. This year’s 141 companies not only filled the brand-new day-lit exhibition hall 4A, but large areas in the adjacent hall 4 as well. A total of over 300 exhibitors also showed products relevant to LogIntern in other halls. Perhaps the pleasant atmosphere in the hall also contributed towards the success of the exhibition as well as the economic situation. 88 % of the exhibitors rate this positively and almost all (a good 95 %) made new business connections and expect lively follow-up business (91 %).

The decision to change to the LogIntern hall was not only the right decision for the container and racking manufacturer SSI Schäfer of Neunkirchen. Wolfgang Kraus as manager of the Nürnberg branch was also responsible for the exhibition stand: “We are absolutely satisfied with our new position in hall 4A. Almost 15 % more leads on the three days – that speaks for itself!” Gerd Erke, General Manager of Crown Gabelstapler of Munich, also had every reason to be pleased: “We sent out a lot of invitations to the exhibition and this pays off. Besides low-level order pickers and handle-based equipment, there was even a good demand for our turret trucks, initially intended as eye-catchers.” Hermann Vasen, Sales Director at Klinkhammer Förderanlagen of Nürnberg, is pleased about the new stand position as well as the promising inquiries handled by the exhibition team at LogIntern: “A great hall we certainly don’t want to leave again!”
The well-attended special show at LogIntern dealt with “Packaging and Transport”. The highlight was a specially designed joint exhibit from 36 well-known companies that illustrated the necessary coupling between material flow and information systems using an example of five stations in a realistic industrial scenario. Prof. Rolf Jansen, Chairman of the Verein zur Förderung innovativer Verfahren in der Logistik and consultant partner of NürnbergMesse, again designed and organized the LogIntern special show and the associated forum. “The companies’ presentation was a big attraction. The interest shown – also in the strongly attended lecture events – has confirmed our choice of topics.”

FachPack: attractive parent exhibition as youthful and dynamic as usual
“FachPack is our most important exhibition. We do really good business here,” said Raymond Vogt, Managing Partner of Stielow Label & Logistik of Norderstedt, summing up his participation at the exhibition. “Of the 500 leads during the exhibition, mostly new customers looking for information about our innovations like WebLabel or anti-counterfeiting, we were particularly impressed by the seriousness of the inquiries.” A remarkable total of 95 % of the FachPack exhibitors summed up the exhibition positively, over 93 % made new business contacts and 91 % expect real follow-up business. No wonder, when 72 % of the exhibitors are already sure: We’ll be there again at FachPack 2009.

FachPack convinced with a powerful range of packaging materials, packaging supplies and packaging ancillaries. Well over 500 exhibitors again emphasized the exhibition’s recognized competence especially in this segment. Some 30 % were present in Nürnberg with packaging machinery. As expected, the visitors were most interested in packaging materials (50 %) and packaging machinery (46 %), followed by packaging ancillaries, labelling equipment, palletizing equipment, services, monitoring and test equipment, packaging recycling, industrial safety and environmental protection equipment.

After his tour of the exhibition, Wolfgang Durrer, Director of the Swiss Packaging Institute, is impressed by the extremely positive discussions and the “good spirit” at FachPack.

In its special show entitled “Robotics, Assortments and Automation in Packaging”, FachPack took up the trend themes of flexibility and automation. The heart of the show was the robotic pack line, in which products (chocolate) were fed in, packed in their primary and secondary packaging, palleted and finally packed for shipment – all fully automatically and including the relevant labelling systems. Rolf Peters, General Manager of K-Robotix of Bremen: “The well-known partner companies in the distinctly larger special show in 2007 really pulled in the visitors. Here decision-makers and engineering and production managers have experienced live what is currently possible in the technology segment and have taken away many ideas for their own companies.”

30th German Packaging Award: Innovative, original and brilliant
What results when 300 development and design specialists pore over packaging could be marvelled at on the stand of the German Packaging Institute (dvi): for example, surprisingly soft drink cans that feel more like bags, stackable PET bottles, closures that measure exact portions of gel from a tube or bottle, invisible RFID tags in corrugated cardboard, previously grey, square and stinking fish crates now as a wavy piece of ocean and “showroom for fresh fish”… The independent jury of top experts presented the German Packaging Award 2007 to altogether 21 prize-winners based on the binding judging criteria.
