BASF increases colorant prices
Effective October 1, 2007, or as contracts allow, BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen, will raise prices by up to 20% for sizing agents and paper colorants in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. This action is being taken because of significant raw material cost increases for products based on ethylene, propylene, fatty alcohols and acids, napthaline, aniline and amines. These raw material costs have been driven upwards by high crude
oil prices and energy costs. Additionally, recent changes in tax
refunds for export business from China combined with a stringent
Chinese environmental protection program have lead to a reduced
supply of key raw materials and consequently an ongoing increase
in prices for intermediates.
For BASF these price increases are necessary to remain a reliable
supplier to ensure that customers receive quality, good service and
value.
