Award for dessicant closures
Desiccant closures developed by Gerresheimer under the brand name Duma® have now been nominated for the internationally important German Packaging Award. The jury found that the innovative plastic caps for pharmaceutical tablet containers represent a significant advance in terms of safety and economy.
The innovation was achieved by the experts in Gerresheimer’s Plastic Packaging Division at the Danish plant in Vaerloese. They conceived the closure together with the integrated desiccant element for the first time as a fundamentally unitary combination system which is created in one connected process. The market standard to date has been for the lid and desiccant capsule for such closures to be produced separately from each other and brought together only later. In contrast, the so far unique integrated approach minimises the risk of external influences and simplifies the registration process required for pharmaceutical packaging.
Gerresheimer Plastic Packaging is regarded as a leading European innovator source for the pharmaceutical industry. In addition to Denmark, this division also has development and production centres in Bünde (Germany) and Boleslawiec (Poland). For the multi-function closures which are also tamper-evident, Gerresheimer set up additional, completely automatically controlled and monitored clean-room production in the Vaerloese competence centre. They are marketed internationally in combination with various tablet containers in the form of the Duma® Twist-Off-Cap and the Duma® HandyCap.
